Indian Premier League

Just a few examples of teams being renamed in the Aus domestic comps.

With those two teams you don't even know who they represent unless you're familiar with Australian domesti cricket. At least with the Bangalore Royal Challengers you know which region they are from.

And those are the names that are officially listed on the Ford Ranger Cup tables, so you really have no excuses.

Gotta love hypocrisy.

It would be interesting to see how the players are traded and paid in the future. There would be transfers too.

NSW Speedblitz Blues ring a bell?

Oh and these names weren't previously just Delhi, or Hyderabad. This doesn't effect the Ranji Trophy or any other domestic comp in India. These are separate franchises owned by individuals. Its different.

And another thing, were you pissed off when the Sheffield Shield became the Pura Milk Cup?
Yeah well SST just needs to understand that when businessmen get involved with the game, the last thing they have on their minds is to think about cricket, their only motive is to squeeze out as much money as they can out of cricket and they would go to any extent to endorse their product, its wrong but that's what the truth is and that's what IPL is all about too, its just a huge money making venture and the franchise owners would do anything to maximize their profits, whether we like it or not they don't give a damn.

But why are you blaming them? The players are happily signing on, these same players SST loves. His Ponting, Symonds, Gilchrist etc.

Yet they are too fatigued and tired to play a game in front of their own Australian fans, and need breaks from ODIs due to too much cricket.

If anything, blame the players. The owners of these franchises are just partaking in regular business activities and earning more money for themself, which they have the right to do.

The only difference between the Speedblitz Blues representing NSW, and the Bangalore Royal Challengers is that one of those teams will actually earn a **** load of money.

SST bemoaning the IPL, yet not saying a word about how WA are now known as the Retravision Warrios is just typical hypocrisy from himself.

The players are also blinded by the money, so they won't think about much either, its us who would be stuck watching soulless cricket.

The IPL is occurring at the same time as England's domestic season.

I reckon a full fit Flintoff would have also been a million dollar player. KP would have gone for quite a bit as well.

It is plain obvious why Hayden, Ponting and McGrath went for so less. These are 3 year contracts, and there is no guarantee a 40 year old Mcgrath or Hayden would be effective 3 years down the line. Ponting is going through a form slump, and perhaps the franchise owners don't trust him to hold onto the #1 batsmans spot 3 years on. Not a surprise that the youngsters made more money than the oldies (Except Jayasuriya. Ambani needs to fire his consultants).

Jono

Virat Kohli (c)
I doubt whether Ponting's form slump had anything to do with his reduced price. He's not exactly loved in the Indian market for one, and two, he's the Australian captain. It is very possible that tours will get in the way of the IPL this year, and in the years to come.

Reading Flintoff's quote on the Beeb website aws, and I can't help but get the feeling that he confused the IPL with the ICL.

Haha I reckon so too.

Andrew Flintoff, who is in India with the Lions as he battles to regain full fitness, told BBC Sport: "The IPL is nowhere near the forefront of my mind.

"The thought of retiring early and not playing a Test match at Lord's or a Roses match for Lancashire to come and play in India is not something I would start to consider."
That's great Freddie, what's that go to do with the IPL?

New South Wales are the Blues to everyone. Everyone calls them the Blues. People have no alternative but to call the Bangalore side by the corporate name.

Nothing wrong with that. If he was to participate in the IPL he'd have to quit England and Lancashire due to the clashing of the seasons.

Actually only four players will have to be from the catchment area and the teams can still i think sign some players from teams such as zimbambve, bangladesh, ireland and netherlands etc....
So the net is to wide to be certain but i will try.

Yeah, I was working the starting XIs more along the lines of the maintaining the maximum 4 overseas players per team limit...
