The Wheel is Forever
The problem is loud and clear, that we don't have enough umpires on the elite panel, the same individuals are officiating in games around the world without getting much of a break due the packed international schedules, so that has taken its toll on the umpires, they seemed to be drained and that is starting to reflect in their decision making.
You could have 50 umpires on the elite panel, and it may improve the situation a little bit. It's not a solution though.

Huge wicket. One more and I'll be confident of our chances. Unfortunately, against Australia you work so hard for four wickets and still have the class of Symonds and Hussey to deal with.

Doesn't matter how many umpires you have on the so-called elite panel.
You've got the technology to assist in decision making . Use it !!!!!
Yeah i am all for the use of technology, but having more umpire on the panel won't hurt either.

Yeah, it's certainly not the solution and I'm certainly in favor of technology as well. However, one does wonder how this crop of umpires (apart from Taufel and one or two others) is supposed to be the "elite" in international cricket. Either they're burdened with too much - in the sense of packed schedules as well as simultaneously looking for the front-foot no ball and possibly the lbw appeal - or they're simply not the "elite", because umpiring at a high standard should not be as difficult as you'd think looking at a few of these guys. Overall, umpiring in cricket is pretty poor compared to what you see in football and basketball for example, and those sports are more difficult to referee. Maintaining a high standard of human umpiring is just as important as complementing that with the appropriate technological tools.

Sharma! Awesome bowling, good to see a guy bowling wicket-taking deliveries.

The way this batch of Indian bowlers are performing is surreal. We are scarecely missing Zaheer, RP amd Munaf. Have to give the Indian selectors credit for picking this guy Ishant over half a dozen others who have much better domestic records.

Now India's Minister for Science and Technology is in the commentary box. He's tried his hand at commentary, and although he sounds a little sleepy, he's quite good at it. A pity Harsha didn't let him talk too much, as he's a welcome edition to our commentary box, and always talks sense when not talking politics.

Harsha: "You're lucky for India, they're playing so well when you came in"
Kapil Sibal: "Well, I have better luck with the weather aspect as I take care of the weather in India"

The decision to pick Haddin and Clark was dire, more than anything else, the hasn't played much cricket off-late and he replaced a guy like Hopes who was adding good depth and variety to the side with both bat and ball, tinkering with a winning combination was unnecessary especially considering the conditions at the G ain't hugely different fron the SCG, though today's pitch seems to be tad quicker from the one we had during the T20 game.

Hopes is injured apparently. Once Hopes was out, they decided they didn't want 20 overs of spin and that they didn't quite trust Hogg at #7, so we ended up with the side we have. Not really an awful decision, even though I would have preferred Noffke to come straight in for Hopes instead.
