Arbitrarily extending the season to 39 games? Yeah, that's bound to be fair, isn't it? Arsenal get (say) Liverpool & Man Utd get Derby for their extra games, no doubt.
& I'm sure Wigan v Fulham would fairly pack 'em into the NYC Viagra Enormodome.

Didn't see the game but some interesting selections from Capello. I guess his selections of Brown, Upson, Jenas, Barry to sit in front of the defense instead of Hargreaves, Rooney a go upfront on his own where to have a look at some players that he didn't know that well & to see how Rooney would work alone up front.
What i'm hoping he has gathered is that Brown aint international quality & if he wants back-up for Richards its got to be Johnson, Onuha or hopefully a revujevnated Gary Neville. Rooney although he is a very physical player is not suited to playing up alone by himself although he is capable of doing it.
Looking at the formation that he picked last night it looked more like a 4-3-3 than a 4-5-1 to me thus leading me to have the feeling that Capello is going to try to make England like another Italy. Thus down the line come the qualifiers in september once all are fit i think the best England XI would be this:
4-3-2-1:

Keeper spot still up for grabs between now & the WC, so we'll see what happens.
Wouldn't go for 4-5-1 since i hate it nor 4-3-3 since England don't have a ``complete`` target man. But in Heskey we have a target man who has the power the ruffle the best of defenders in the world & provide knock downs for the likes of Rooney & Cole to run on to thus making the 4-3-2-1 very effective i reckon.
Only problem with this formation i think is that its very unsual with the players & i don't know how the mid-field would be able to cope knowing they have no wingers to support, thus making the job of the full-backs more demanding. But then again given how inept England have been over the years at playing flowing football in mid-field this kind of formation that could enable them to pass better (and the fact that Becks aint around to score from free kicks).

Hearing Scudamore talk down to fans has been utterly cringe-making, condescending and patronising in the extreme. I really didn't think anything the money-making scum of the premiership could make me angry anymore, but this is wrong on so many levels it's ridiculous.
In fact there hasn't been an emoticon invented that would show my displeasure enough.

Horrendous idea. If I actually cared about who won the Premiership I'd probably be feeling some kind of negative emotion right now, but as it stands it's just mirth at the idea that league titles relegation places could be settled over a year by the luck of who gets an extra game against Derby County.

Regardless of the issue of whether we should play games abroad, how would a 39-game season work? The whole idea of a league is that you play every team the same amount of times, with each game carrying the same weighting. Terrible idea. And who is going to want to watch anyone other than the big four sides abroad? No-one. Just a marketing move by teams that already have more than enough cash.
Also noticed that they switched to a 3-from-7 formula for substitutes, bringing it in line with Europe. Personally, I'd prefer Europe to go the other way - having 4 outfield subs to choose from makes the game more interesting than 6. Every team will have cover on the bench for each position now, removing certain tactical elements from the game.

7-subs is a much better idea than 5. Do you have any idea how annoying that rule is when playing in the Premiership in Football Manager? That rule is probably why I prefer Spain and Italy.
