*Official* English Football Season 2007-08

The Sean

Cricketer Of The Year
Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Munich Air Crash, which claimed the lives of 23 people including 8 Manchester United players, decimating a generation of talent at both club and national level. Among these were a host of bright young stars including established England internationals Roger Byrne and Tommy Taylor, and the extraordinary Duncan Edwards - the 21 year old collossus of both United and England, of whom Bobby Charlton still claims is the only player who ever made him feel completely inferior.

Plenty has been said and written over the years about the tragedy and the legacy it created so I won't go on here, I will say this - I wish I'd seen them play.

RIP the Busby Babes, and everyone who lost their lives in the tragedy.

tbh it struck me as odd that portsmouth would want to sell in the first place, would question the logic of selling an in form benjani for an out of form jermaine defoe (or even an in form defoe for that matter).

any predictions on tonights match? i'll go for an unspectacular 2-0 to england, and be happy about it as with a serious manager in charge i'll happily give my backing to the side once more.

It will probably be a fairly dull game, as its a friendly, and as switzerland are one of the dullest teams in the world, and as teams managed by capello often focus a lot of a tight defence and hard work, but I imagine there will be a goal or two, most likely being an ugly goal by crouch, most likely a header, and maybe one bundled in from close range.

BAH, sack the manager, our poor players can't hack this forn tactics. Bring back McClaren, Keegle and Taylor, the dream team.

Oh no, wait a minute, Fabio's clearly a tactical genius, what a substitution, we're surely going to win the World Cup.

well that turned out pretty much as I expected, dont really get why the BBC hyped up the performance of David Bentley so much, he did ok but they were saying he was outstanding, and Gerrard winning man of the match was also highly questionable, should have been Rooney. Altogether a reasonable performance against a poor side, decent start for the new boss, no complaints.

It's been 42 and a half years, can't believe some of you Poms haven't gotten over it yet.
There's been a challenge made by a Scottish work colleague of mine to find an English international match coverage (including pre-match discussions and post-match analysis) on British television that doesn't mention the 1966 World Cup (this would include such things as "It's been ___ year since we last won the World Cup" etc). Someone let me know if they find one.

Agree with the Bentley comments, did little with the possesion he had. Joe Cole was clear man of the match, for me though. Fabio might finally be the man to get the best out of him.
