Very, very nice partnership between the two. Have really made the game interesting, weather permitting.

Superb recovery from India and lot of credit needs to go to the way Dhoni and Gambhir played, really paced their innings well and helped their team set a very good total in the end, Sri lanka looked quite rusty on the other hand as they are playing an Odi after a long time, but now they would have to bat really well to chase this target down, i just hope rain stays away as we seem to have the prospect of a very very good game on our hands.

The last 10 overs really showed how little ODI cricket SL have played in recent times - there was no where near enoug intensity.

Jayawardene's capataincy sorta pissed me off in the middle overs there, giving away easy singles instead of trying to go for the juggular.

Malinga impresed with his pace today, he hasn't been bowling that quick for some time. That said, he didn't bowl with any variety. In the PM's match where he was very impressive, he really shook up the bastmen with short stuff and varied his speed.

Also, I think it's time Vaas got put out to stud. He is still potent on subcontiental wickets as he showed in the recent SL/Eng test series, but he has shown he can't really get the ball to talk much in 'Straya. Granted he was a bit unlucky today, but its clear to anyone he is declining rapidly. Bring on young left-arm Welegedara I say.

I hope we get somewhat of a hit out tonight before the rains arrive and our blokes get some match practise in before the Australia match.

How do people have so much spare time to watch cricket? You don't work or bloody students?

The weather is also not looking good for friday's game in Sydney. Rain has been falling for the past few days and forecast is for more rain on thursday and friday. I can't remember the last time this happened to the tri-series down here...

They need to play them all in Melbourne, it never rains. So weird this series is only just getting started and we're well into Feb. Have to say I'm thoroughly underwhelmed and haven't been paying attention.

Terrific knock by Gambhir. Hope all the Gambhir haters stood up and took notice. It was a terrific knock and even better that he made that drop by Sangakkara come back to haunt Sri Lanka. So many Indian players like Dravid and Ganguly get dropped by the fieldsmen only for them to get out the next over or a few overs later. Why some people were saying that Gambhir should never be picked is beyond me. He's clearly a more accomplished batsman than Raina or Karthik.

Telstra Dome FTW
Ever been to a game at Telstra Dome? If so, how far are you into repaying the mortgage you would have had to take out to buy a beer? Hate the place.

The rain is good for the farmers I suppose. If we can continue the cricket until May, we'll break this drought.

As I said earlier, the scheduling of the Brisbane games is horrid imo. Generally January & early February is the wettest time of year in Brisbane (even with a drought on). Schedule the Brisbane games later on in the ODI series and you'll solve half the problem imo.

I'm eternally haunted by the first week of December, rather than January or February.

In 2003, it rained for three straight days in the Gabba Test against India.

So you two are saying it rains a lot in December, January and February in Queensland, then? All the months of the season?

Leave cricket to the shoe-wearing states IMO.

Nah. I'm a Gambhir hater. He doesn't belong on this stage. A couple of good innings do not make up for ten times as many bad ones. He has neither the the technique nor the temperament to succeed at this level. Quality swing and seam bowling just makes him seem clueless.

I have to say that i have been doubtful about Gambhir myself but after viewing his ranji trophy knocks and This knock today he has improved his technique. The range of shots he showed today were marvellous and his play against slower bowlers was magnificent specially spinners. He reminded me of a young ganguly today without ofcourse the range of shots on the offside and a stuttering front foot movement. The charging of spinners, struggling at the beginning against quicks(taking them on at the end),Hitting murali while others were struggling and constantly abusing himself for missing out on lollies.Even his family background and his behaviour is so ganguly like.
I still am not convinced with him but he is improving and is in good form at the moment. He still struggles against genuine pace or the ball angling in to him and ofcourse is a compulsive puller but is good against medium pacers and spinners.I think he could be a useful batsman for india in the middle order in both odi's and tests as he is a good player against spin and in india that could be crucial as swing ends after a few overs and there is nothing for genuine quicks until it starts to reverse. He does not probably have the technique to open at the moment.
btw,he has shown bottle today as he did in the t20 wc final.
