Bang- OZ series likely to be scrapped

Yes you can. Australia is a traditional and powerful cricket nation and Bangladesh is a nothing cricket nation. Bangladesh should consider themselves lucky they are even playing test cricket. They certainly don't deserve to be. Therefore they should pay the price and have to change.
But this probably won't happen because India and Pakistan will go into bat for them.
I agree with that part of your post.

I still don't understand why the series doesn't go ahead, only the faithful will follow the series anyway.
I think you would get the same crowds whether the olimpics are on or not, same as tv coverage.
Its a huge problem that channel 9 refuses to telecast it,than being on in the olimpics.
I's like to know when the tests would be played. If at cairns and darwin next off season, then i see no difference.
The series is just not going to rate nor is it going to get any crowds.
If srilanka can't draw crowds or television viewing then i don't know what bangladesh would do.

Money talks, Bangladesh cricket doesn't. Another sign that CA only care about money and couldn't give a stuff about the development of cricket internationally.
welcome to Earth, the year is 2008 and the PM is Kevin Rudd.

If I could choose between the Olympics and Aus-Bangladesh, I would watch the olympics.

So would 99% of people.

Bangladesh is a third tier test team....their fastest bowler is like 120 km/h or something. We've got better bowlers running around country towns trying to hit everyone....

I'd prefer to watch cricket tbh.

What does pace have to do with the ability of a team? Mashrafe Mortaza is a good bowling all-rounder tbh.

Im boycotting the olympics anyway so I would happily watch bang aus... I think the human rights abuses have been pushed aside quicker than the bangladesh middle order... disgraceful

Agree with this.

Seriously, does the Future Tours Program mean anything?

I think that anyone who truly loves the game would be very interested to see how Bangladesh are developing - I was extremely curious to see that when they came here. Ok, the answer was "not much", but it was interesting nonetheless, and Shahadat was good to watch - significantly over 120kmh too.

I would imagine bangladeshi fans and the board would be very dissapointed.
This is not the first nation that have dissapointed them, india has done the same thing.
Surprised that the bully boy bcci has not stepped in,but i guess they have done the same thing.
Bangladesh undervalued.
As a positive it does give the aussies a decent break, altho they are due to play the one dayers.Channel 9 may show them.I will be watching the games anyway.

Consider me a proud member of the other 1%.

This is dire - it's not as though the Bangladesh tour was announced yesterday and took everyone by surprise. The future tours program is (most of the time) very clear - we're scheduled to host Bangladesh for two Tests in mid-2008. Why it couldn't have been organised so that was played them last year during our 10 month break from Test cricket rather than this year when we play nearly 20 Tests I don't know, but the fact is it's in the program and we all knew about it.

Australia is major cricketing nation - we owe it to Bangladesh to give them the Test experience their status permist them (however rightly or wrongly we believe it to have been awarded and upheld), as well as to assist in their development. We are also obligated to the ICC to fulfil our Test match requirements, of which this is a scheduled, sanctioned part.

And surely we owe it to ourselves to give our own players at least the occasional chance to meaninglessly boost their stats in the same way every other country does so often...

Yep - put me in with the other 1%.

I'd much rather watch Aus-Bang cricket than Misplevexcvicswec beat Taraboolabataslov in Extreme Ping Pong or whatever other irrelevant sport Channel 7 chooses to push down our throats this time around.

Poor form from everyone concerned!

This sucks a big one. Really.

Are we going to play them at home at some other point? We wouldn't be scrapping the tour if it was India or someone coming here at that time. This is pretty outrageous and showing a total lack of respect for cricket fans and Bangladeshi cricket. I hope it goes ahead at another time in the future...

Just rank rank stupidity by CA presumably to schedule it to clash with the Olympics. They're only on for two weeks every four years, but in that fortnight, they own the attention of 99% of the world's sports audience. Any other sporting event up against it is going to be non-viable. Given that that is the situation, and apparently they can't reschedule it, maybe they should just cancel it.

It's not like we don't play tests against Bangladesh - we were over there a couple of years ago, and they were over here quite recently as well, IIRC. If anything, we seem to play them more regularly than some other countries.

Pretty sure we play Bangladesh the least out of any nation.

Yep, I think we've only ever played four Tests against them.
Less Tests, because the Test series are only two tests long (same as we offer SL) , but those series occur as regularly as many others. We've only played a few because they've only been a test team for such a short period. I'm sure to date we've met the requirements of the FTP.

Oh I'm sure we have mate, I was more commenting on your point that we play them as regularly as any other team which I don't agree with - particularly when you look at how often some countries seem to play them.

EDIT - just went and looked it up and for the most part you're right mate. Australia, England, South Africa and West Indies have all played just 4 Tests against Bangladesh. India have - perhaps surprisingly - only played 5. Pakistan and New Zealand have both played 6, while Zimbabwe have played 8. Topping the list, and perhaps the reason for my skewed perspective, is Sri Lanka, who've played no less than ten Tests against the Bangas.

I also just looked up our Tests against Zimbabwe - that is the country we really have under-played compared to the rest of the cricketing world. I think I was lumping them both together under the "minnows" banner and drawing my conclusions from there.

Zimbabwe probably would be in the same, marginally better, boat as Bangladesh if it wasn't for the political issues that have impeded the scheduling of tours...
