This is dire - it's not as though the Bangladesh tour was announced yesterday and took everyone by surprise. The future tours program is (most of the time) very clear - we're scheduled to host Bangladesh for two Tests in mid-2008. Why it couldn't have been organised so that was played them last year during our 10 month break from Test cricket rather than this year when we play nearly 20 Tests I don't know, but the fact is it's in the program and we all knew about it.
Australia is major cricketing nation - we owe it to Bangladesh to give them the Test experience their status permist them (however rightly or wrongly we believe it to have been awarded and upheld), as well as to assist in their development. We are also obligated to the ICC to fulfil our Test match requirements, of which this is a scheduled, sanctioned part.
And surely we owe it to ourselves to give our own players at least the occasional chance to meaninglessly boost their stats in the same way every other country does so often...
