Being harsh on Ponting there I reckon. I can barely recall Ponting dropping a simple in the slips in the past 4-5 years. I know there has been a 1 or 2, but imo he's much more than a "merely average or just above" slipper.

Dropped Laxman on 30 or so during the 2003-04 Adelaide Test.

Very harsh on Ponting imo. I think Ponting's excellent, as is Hayden, usually. But yes, we are a long way from the glory days of Taylor and Waugh.

Australia really lacking a good cordon atm, compared at the start of the decade when they had the likes of Mark Waugh, Warne, Hayden with Ponting, S Waugh as backups...

Nowdays the only outstanding slipper is Hayden, while Ponting is merely average or just above. While Clarke and the rest are poor...I know he had an ankle twinge but it was still a very sorry sight to see Symonds in the cordon at times this summer.
Good thing is, it's something that can be easily worked on. I remember how woeful our catching was in the 2005 Ashes. We worked on it hard after that and it has been excellent since then up until this summer.

Have to say, I always hate the Adelaide test. Always boring, with the only exception being about 3-4 hours of the 5th day last year.

I hope we get to see an eciting finish to this game tommorow as Adelaide test's always tend to store their best for the last day.

I think Ind are just gonna bat through the whole day tomorrow.
I wish the same but history says otherwise.... Indians have always been terrible on fifth day. Sehwag has to play a long innings. It would be a sad end to a good series if India goes on to lose from here. However, a perfect farewell for Gilly if Aussies win.

FFS, I hate it when people(selectors/ponting) whoever they are try to make someone something they are not. Clarke is terrible in the slips and should not be there.

How many has he dropped this series now ??
Dropped 2 and caught 2.

Funny how one bad series means hes not a good slip fielder. The media should call for his head 8-)

What is the Indian bowling situation? Even if they do go for the W, how are they gonna bowl the Aussies out or even come close to picking any wickets with no RP, Kumble injured(I believe), Harbhajan being useless and Pathan and Ishant being dead tired.

No, India simply cannot win from here. Only two results possible - match draw or Australian win.

Dravid's finger has balooned. If he can't go on, we can't draw this.

India have got no chance of winning this unfortunately. Should've bowled better last innings, and the captaincy was rather uninspiring from Kumble. Ishant is a real workhorse and I think he'll keep on going. Hopefully Pathan can find something in the tank. But at the moment, I don't know why India isn't scoring a bit more freely. Whenever they come out in this ultra defensive mindset, they always mess it up.

They aren't scoring fast for the same reason Australia didn't. It's hard, and its gotten harder.

Can't blame Kumble and the bowlers though, last four first team innings have all gone for 500+ here. Anyways, pretty big blow for India if Dravid is hurt.
