only 84 runs in that session :( but overrate was poor

we needa get em to bat tonight a bit..

tbh knew Gilly wouldnt of survived that long... sad though the last time we'll see him in white :(
He has a place reserved in the Channel 9 comm box, so i guess we would atleast be hearing a lot from him in the future.:)

A team player to the very last ball. That streaky two in the air through gully, straight four, and then late cut for two more was what we've come to expect from Gilchrist. Lifting the momentum and looking to keep the game moving. Good captaincy from Kumble though, to slow the game down, move the field around a bit and it resulted in the dismissal.

Had a tear in my eye when he walked back to the pavilion.

Indians were very respectful - all anyone could ask for really
Exactly. It would definitely look strange for 11 Indian players to all approach Gilchrist and shake his hand, pat him on the bat etc. They did all they needed to do when he walked out to bat, and the handshake from Sharma was an extra bit of sportsmanship.

I don't know, I thought maybe a guard of honour. I mean it's no big deal they didn't but I remember it happening before and it's really nice. Anyway shame he got out but oh well, well played Gilly :)

His own team could have given him the guard of honour like pakistan did with INZY and the indians could have followed.

According to Mark Taylor, India can't really win it from here and I agree. They need to now focus on making sure they have to bat for as little as possible.

To declare, then get a bowl tonight? Might as well punt for a result, if for no better reason than a) Churchy or b) to put the series scoreline beyond conjecture.
Yeah that's basically it. If Australia aren't bowling by tonight, there's basically no chance of a result for either team imo.

So they should stack the off-side field, bowl wide of off stump and generally look to keep Australia batting, but not scoring runs?

Australia have nothing to lose by declaring tonight anyway. Even if India bat brilliantly and score at 4 an over, Australia aren't going to have long to survive tomorrow to get a draw. If India collapse, Australia have a shot at winning.

Ponting should declare with 10 overs left or so.

I'd say 20 even, the longer we get to bowl them out the better and any wickets we can take tonight will be brilliant. I don't think a lead now is as valuable as more overs to have a go at them and there's no way we can lose from here anyways.

Commentators who think Ponting will declare underestimate both his conservatism and his spitefulness. There's no way Ponting will give the Indians any sort of a sniff. He would not be bothered at all to see them rot away in the sun for three days, especially when they might be thinking that he will declare and open the game up.*

*Of course he may make a complete ass of me and declare in the next 10 minutes. lol
