From people who played in last 30 years,
1. Geoff Boycolt - will not give his wicket away at any cost
2. Sunil Gavaskar - same , but bit more class is about him that Boycs
3. Rahul Dravid - the wall, wil bat and bat on
4. Ricky Ponting - not defensive at all, but scores when there's a crisis
5. Jaques Kallis - Never gives his wicket away, and a big scorer too. Keeps bowling good lengths too
6. Steve Waugh (c) - Another fighter, will clinch in to the last of the straws. Good defensive bowler too.
7. Anrew Flower / Hashan Tillekaratne (wk) - Die hard fellows like Waugh. Never gives their wickets away, thorns in the flesh of the oppositions. Good wicket keepers too. Flower is the better bat, Hashan is the better keeper / fielder
8. Shaun Pollock - He'll bowl reentless line and length for you, and will keep the runs down. If the wicket is helpful, will get wickets too. He'll be the odd man with batting, because he's very attacking.
8. Chaminda Vaas - He'll be the left arm version of Pollock, relenless and work-horse like and never tiring. He's also a batsman when in is mighty dificult to dislodge
10. Glenn McGrath - He'll bowl on a coin all day, if he can get wickets then he'll get it, otherwise he'll bore the batsman until they are out
11. Muttiah Muralitharan - The champion of marathon spells. Whether he takes wickets or not, will wheel away over after over
