*Official* English Football Season 2007-08

haha southampton now are terrible, always failing when they should do much better, I was actually a member there for a few years :p (sorry barn), but that was mainly so I could get tickets to go and see them play Arsenal etc...
Haha, nah, I can forgive you for being a member there, a lot of my mates are. I did actually go to a game there last season just for the experience, and I felt so uncomfortable the whole time...was such a bad idea. All the time I wanted to talk to my two mates about how weird it was, but I couldn't, 'cause anyone who caught me talking about Pompey would probably have beaten the crap out of me...

Mansfield. On the BBC again for the record. Saturday 26th, hope we'll all be watching Middleborough make an absolute hash of putting away the 91st best team in the country.

It seems that the boards expectations way exceed what their current squad is capable of, to sack allardyce at this stage is incredibly short sighted, and tbh I wouldnt put money on redknapp making a success of it if he gets the job, the club seems to be cursed.
Newcastle are in this weird situation where they think they should be in the top 4 every season, despite having done nothing to merit that in ten years (couple of 2nds) and haven't won anything at all in 40 years, Fairs Cup (early Uefa Cup iirc), wooo. Even Mansfield won the Land Rover Freight Trophy(Johnstone's Paint this year) in 87.

Newcastle was just another pay package for Big Sam. He'll move into a club that actually want him and they'll do well, and Newcastle will look silly because of it.

Redknapp should stay with Pompy, for his reputation's sake. Newcastle will probably end up with some ex-England manager or something. Poor bastards. Having said that, they all slated Sven when he finished up with England and look at him now.
I just don't think Ashley rated him. Fat Sam was Shepherd's appointment & singings like Barton, Rozenhal & Cacapa have probably confirmed Ashley's suspicions. Much like McClaren at England it was a step too far for him.

There's obviously the style of play issues too; Newcastle fans have always reputedly liked to see attractive football & Allardyce seemed to be employing the same kind of long-ball spoling game that served him at Bolton.

At the end of the day he's done far more good for the club than bad - perhaps more good than any manager in our history.
Debatable, unless I'm imagining it Portsmouth won the league in succesive seasons in the 40s, didn't they? Would also dispute the Newcastle great fans claim - passionate, certainly, but they don't seem to be able to accept that they're not a club that is expected to hallenge any more.

Also debatable, I don't think they ever came 2nd but they did come top 4 a couple of times within the last 10 years, under Sir Bobby. His sacking now looks even more idiotic than it did at the time, which is saying something.

Not really. They've always lacked depth up front and now they have their fourth decent-enough striker.
Yeah, but 15m for a fourth decent-enough striker who'll play the League Cup final + meaningless CL second legs? Just shows they have too much money to play with. Could get, say, Marcus Allbäck for 1/15 of that.

Not seen any recent behaviour this season to suggest he is a "****".

Don't think anybody can argue that he is absolute quality though.

95/96 and 96/97 they came 2nd. So the last 12 years.

Indeed he is a very good player and if he had a little more self-discipline he would probably has/still be one of the best strikers in the world

Yeah, agree with this, it's not like they've signed Barton, Bellamy or Bowyer. His agents threw a few strops years ago, so what? Bolton fans have been pleased with his attitude this season, (by all accounts, I've heard) he's not sulked and has concentrated on his game. People are allowed to change and mature, you know.

He's a good, bordering on great, striker who doesn't have to acclimatise to the Prem and will score right away. Something they need with Drogba off for the african nations and Pizzaro and Sheva looking like Championship players atm.

Also, Chelsea throw £15m out of the window.

Yes I agree with Vimes, £15 million is a rip off of the highest order for a total ****.

Heard Allardyce's views on him and it confirmed what I'd heard from a Scottish football pundit plying his trade on American TV, Anelka's not really a bad guy. His agents are member of his family and they're pretty greedy. He just plays football. Should he have more say in his career? Yes but he obviously trusts his agents and follows their advice. He's a decent guy who just goes about his business and doesn't cause much trouble.

Well he has come across in the press as bit of a twit. Remember that spat he had with the French national team because he took offence to being called up as a replacement player.

Norwood's on Fire
Redknapp staying put

Made up that Anelka has left the scum, that should see them relegated, ****ers
