Hasn't been in form for donkeys IMO. Hes just one thats avoided the spotlight by scoring a 50 in about 1 in 8 games.Styris off form?? Didn't he get a half-century or two in the South African ODIs?

Thing is, Watto is a legend, hero, god, Hussey is just another overrated Victorian.Much like some posters' obsession with Shane Watson, really.
"Ooo look, Shane Watson farted and knocked over a bail! Get him the Test/ODI/World XI side! Is there nothing he can't do?!"
Its not that I disagree with youRested players from the CH and won the World Cup, the far more important tournament, comfortably. Resting senior players is about keeping the eye on the future.
The resting policy has worked for us more often than not. And if a break like this prolongs Gilly's career, then I'm all for it.

Got me there, even playing against some quality teams too. Although I thought his form before and after was/is patchy. He did strike that 60 or so in SA recently but tbh whenever he comes in to bat i fear the worst but maybe thats just the team as a wholeWorld Cup?
Mate I don't think THAT many Aussies really care about this series regardless of the result on Thursday.I can really see Aussies rotation policy going the same way as the All Blacks TBH if they get overenthusiastic about it like Henry did. I don't think it is quite what they say its for though, they're resting him because they don't want to use him in a game they think they'll win fairly comfortably and ts a shame because if we do pull off an upset (and we're good at upsets) all the Aussies will say "Oh there was no Gilly, they had it easy" or "we don't care about this series anyway" which was the excuse last year.
I hear it may be extended to five matches in the future? I prefer three TBH, five one dayers is too much. it just drags on and on.
On paper, our side is still better than New Zealand's even without Gilly. So losing Gilly isn't really an excuse.I can really see Aussies rotation policy going the same way as the All Blacks TBH if they get overenthusiastic about it like Henry did. That's a very politically correct way of saying that NZ aren't that good mateYou guys have a pretty interesting series soon against the Bangas too.
I just like Bangladesh. That's a very politically correct way of saying that NZ aren't that good mate
It's an essential part of the transition phase too. By the time Gilly calls it a day, Haddin will be at peak age for batsmen-keepers and he'll have 30 ODIs under his belt. Can't stress the importance of that enough I reckon.Na dropping Gilly isn't the biggest of blows. I mean its not long till its permanent. They do need to give some more game time to Haddin and he's a very talented bloke.
As for the Aussies not being at full strength?
A lot bloody closer to it than us.
I think you are re-enforcing what Flem was trying to pint out... what if you had won the series in NZ last year.. you would have falling into the All Blacks situration (we cabn win with any 15 on the park) I think the loss was a blessing in disguise and it high lighted how improtant some of those individuals from the 5 rested are...On paper, our side is still better than New Zealand's even without Gilly. So losing Gilly isn't really an excuse.
Last year however, we had 5 experienced ODI players out. And that many players out does make an enormous difference to one's side.
There obviously is no excuse, they were better on the day and deserved the win.by the way NZ hasnt lost an ODI to Bang.. what was your excuse for that game which included...some of those big name rested players..???
Mortaza bowled well and Ashraful and Afteb certainly batted well.by the way NZ hasnt lost an ODI to Bang.. what was your excuse for that game which included...some of those big name rested players..???
Eh? He's already 30 and his knees must already be feeling the strain. By the time Gilly calls it even on his ODI career, Haddin will be well past 'peak age'. He's probably past it now, only goes downhill from here for 'keepers. Personally, I think he's being looked at as a caretaker 'keeper until Ronchi or someone else steps up because he won't have long as Gilly's successor. It's an essential part of the transition phase too.
