Much like some posters' obsession with Shane Watson, really.

"Ooo look, Shane Watson farted and knocked over a bail! Get him the Test/ODI/World XI side! Is there nothing he can't do?!"
Thing is, Watto is a legend, hero, god, Hussey is just another overrated Victorian.

Rested players from the CH and won the World Cup, the far more important tournament, comfortably. Resting senior players is about keeping the eye on the future.

The resting policy has worked for us more often than not. And if a break like this prolongs Gilly's career, then I'm all for it.
Its not that I disagree with you

Its just this is effectively now a 2 match series with a live rubber. If I thought it would make a genuine difference I would support a resting policy, but the ACB have said they want the trophy and its a decider.

I don’t think this is going to make a difference to Gilchrist's career length so I don’t like the rotation for a rest, particularly when a lot of other players were told to rest from state cricket between the Test series and the CH tournament and Gilchrist was not rested than.

I think what your saying is pretty much correct except in this small series and in a trophy decider you have your best team in.

Think it will be betweeen Clarke and Hopes opening. Hopes usually opens the batting for QLD in one day games. One would expect Clarke to get it though, given his willingness to send himself in as captain.

I can really see Aussies rotation policy going the same way as the All Blacks TBH if they get overenthusiastic about it like Henry did. I don't think it is quite what they say its for though, they're resting him because they don't want to use him in a game they think they'll win fairly comfortably and ts a shame because if we do pull off an upset (and we're good at upsets) all the Aussies will say "Oh there was no Gilly, they had it easy" or "we don't care about this series anyway" which was the excuse last year.

I hear it may be extended to five matches in the future? I prefer three TBH, five one dayers is too much. it just drags on and on.

World Cup?
Got me there, even playing against some quality teams too. Although I thought his form before and after was/is patchy. He did strike that 60 or so in SA recently but tbh whenever he comes in to bat i fear the worst but maybe thats just the team as a whole

Mate I don't think THAT many Aussies really care about this series regardless of the result on Thursday.

Everyone is just waiting for the Boxing Day Test..

You guys have a pretty interesting series soon against the Bangas too.

On paper, our side is still better than New Zealand's even without Gilly. So losing Gilly isn't really an excuse.

Last year however, we had 5 experienced ODI players out. And that many players out does make an enormous difference to one's side.

Na dropping Gilly isn't the biggest of blows. I mean its not long till its permanent. They do need to give some more game time to Haddin and he's a very talented bloke.

As for the Aussies not being at full strength?

A lot bloody closer to it than us.

It's an essential part of the transition phase too. By the time Gilly calls it a day, Haddin will be at peak age for batsmen-keepers and he'll have 30 ODIs under his belt. Can't stress the importance of that enough I reckon.

I think you are re-enforcing what Flem was trying to pint out... what if you had won the series in NZ last year.. you would have falling into the All Blacks situration (we cabn win with any 15 on the park) I think the loss was a blessing in disguise and it high lighted how improtant some of those individuals from the 5 rested are...

by the way NZ hasnt lost an ODI to Bang.. what was your excuse for that game which included...some of those big name rested players..???

Mortaza bowled well and Ashraful and Afteb certainly batted well.

They also fielded reasonably well that day to. There was the little of issiue of team managment and senior players being really pissed at Symonds that day, Symonds though was just pissed.

Eh? He's already 30 and his knees must already be feeling the strain. By the time Gilly calls it even on his ODI career, Haddin will be well past 'peak age'. He's probably past it now, only goes downhill from here for 'keepers. Personally, I think he's being looked at as a caretaker 'keeper until Ronchi or someone else steps up because he won't have long as Gilly's successor.
