I see you don't follow the domestic competition in Sri Lanka, where Dilshan is the leading run scorer and Kapu hardly scored a run?
Most of the domestic bowlers are pretty ordinary and you could score runs for all you want in domestic cricket but if you score a meagre 3 or 0 or duck/golden duck against quality Test Class bowlers even in 2 friendly Practice Matches (of First Class status)...that really shows where you stand particularly after 3 innings ...with no runs to show for...

If that is the case then how come Kapu has never scored runs against domestic bowlers. The pitches in Colombo this season have been really bowler friendly and only a handful of batsmen have scored any runs. But regardless Kapu needs to put some consistent runs on the board before he even gets considered. Yeah it was great to see him score runs against the English, but he will never make it at International level until he can score runs consistently rather then one off performances here and there. Also the fact that Dilshan averages 37 with the bat Tests, shows he has the potential to hit the 40 mark if he work on certain areas of his game. His a lot closer to being a Test class batsmen right now then Kapu is. Also only one of tour matches where given FC status.

Migara

International Coach
Agree with Migara that Rangana Herath is a better wicket taker than Bandara in Tests...but SL selectors probably don't favour him because he is an offie and prefer a leggie. As Murali has indicated its time for SL to start grooming a successor and Loku IMO has the goods ...if he can be given the opportunity to refine himself...
Rangana Herath is a slow left arm bowler mate, perfect foil for Murali. He ran through Aussie and pakistani sides when he was given the opportunity. But the muppets and jokers even don;t consider him for the squad.

Kapugedara is too young to be thrown at the deep end. He lacks a tight technique and "block it or hit it" type batsman, nothing in between. We have to give him some time before getting him on test matches.

Current options are Dilshan and Warnapura. Upul Tharanga never was and is a test opener. His technique is too loose. Malinda Warnapura will be perfect foil for Vandort, because Warnapura plays lot of shots square of the wicket. And additionaly he's a good offie, and he'll be the second all rounder SL is banking hopes on (FC batting average 36.6, bowling average 26.7). Murali also will have less work with spinning options.

finger spinners suck, they are only good for keeping runs down in ODI.

TBF to selectors Herath is 3rd or 4th in lin in the spinner spot with Lokuarachchi. It just that when you have Murali in the side and the fact we hardly two spinners anymore he isn't going to make too many squads. The selectors have said for a while that Herath will make a good short term replacement for Murali if he decides to retire early. But if he hangs around a bit longer then they have to look at more long term replacement like Lokuarachchi and Bandara. The fact he continually gets selected in A sides ahead of Lokuarachchi and Suraj shows the selectors feel he isn't that far off the Test team. I would read too much into Bandara continual selection ahead of him in squads.

Galle pitch is an unknown entity after the tsunami. .
I'm getting some information that recent heavy rain in Galle has surfuced some more mud left over from the Tsunami and getting this ground in playing condition for this match is now going to be a real battle, can anyone confirm this?

Confirmed

Richard will be happy though, this Test will be the closest thing to an uncovered pitch since the 70s. Cue Murali 19-fer. :D

As England need to win the last test to force a drawn series I would be tempted to go with a 5 man bowling attack. Prior & Sidebottom's this series has given England batting depth I think they didn't even know they had which would allow England to play the 5 bowlers and not lose as much in the batting.

I know it will never happen but my team for the last test:

Vaughan
Cook
Bell
Pietersen
Collingwood
Prior
Swann
Broad
Sidebottom
Hoggard (Harmy if Hoggard isn't fit)
Monty

Whatever happens Swann has to play apart from 1 spell from Hoggard in the 1st test & 1 spell from Sidebottom in the 2nd the seamers have been largely ineffective.

Thought Broad looked good apart from the obvious running on the pitch problem. I still don't rate Anderson concedes to many runs offers no control & has no way of getting wickets on flat pitches.

Aside from the five-bowler question (I'd probably go for five myself, though as you I doubt anyone is seriously considering it) you really think there's any chance whatsoever that Broad will currently be ahead of Harmison in the pecking-order? Regardless of batting ability.

Not quite three years since the Tsunami. The ground does not appear to be any thing like ready,
Will this game even go ahead? Word is the outfied is sodden, verging on being muddy.

Definitely will go ahead....Warnaweera (Head Groundsman) and his staff will be working hard to dry the outfield....Not sure if the weather is helping....But There is no doubt it will go ahead...Key for Team winning Toss - Bat first....

Samaraweera seems to have fallen about six places down the pecking order, for whatever reaosn. He was taken to Australia and played one test, scoring 13 and 20, and since then he has dropped behind Mubarak (lol), Tharanga (vying for a different position, granted) and now Dilshan. People have been talking about Kapu as well. He has an excellent record at home and he really should be playing in this series IMO.
