Lol @ Mcullum.

Tait's 'comment' that NZ batsmen looked uncomfortable against pace was more fact than anything. A blind man could see that the Kiwis were having a huge amount of trouble handling him and Lee in Perth. Why? Their tremendous pace was definitely a contributor.

"If he's Glenn McGrath, he can probably throw comments like that out there,"

What does this mean? So unless a bowler is as good as Glenn McGrath he's not allowed to state the obvious? Terrible.

"But my only advice would be to maybe get a few more statistics behind him before he starts mouthing off."

Yes, McCullum, a man with just magnificent ODI statistics is allowed to comment when Tait with terrible ODI statistics such as an ODI SR of 25 and bowling average of 24 shouldn't be allowed to comment....What a hypocrite. McCullum should keep his bloody mouth shut if he believes you should have some decent statistics behind you before you start 'mouthing off'. Quite fairly, his ODI stats are poor and he has a history of mouthing off to players out in the centre.
Can't understand why the Black caps have got stuck into Taity he made a very valiant point about the weakness off the New Zealand batsmen against genuine pace, but it seems to have pissed off the Black caps because its really mad on their part to fire up a young fast bowler like Taity it could only make him more determined to do well, all said and done pretty dire comment from McCullum.

Tait has obviously said something on the pitch that has wound McCullum up

????????????????????????????????????/

If you have a good batting line up and a crap bowling line up you bat first, get some runs on the board and than hopfully the pressure of runs on the board force the opposition into mistakes.

In the past New Zealand have been great chasers but the current batting form indicates that a large run chase against quality bowling could be too much.

In the past there was Bond to get some early wickets and than toss the balls to the medium paces and Vettori to control the run rate, but until a bowlers shows he can be relied on to be able to make inroads into a batting line up I don’t think chasing is your best option.

for Mine Dan made the right call. I will wait to see the state of the pitch tomorrow as Sydney has been wet for a while before I would make a call on what to do if winning the toss.
Not at all. When a side bats first in an ODI they're always at a disadvantage. They'll often be uncertain of what a decent score will be, how to go about getting that score, and how to play the bowling on the pitch. Often that'll lead to them playing too conservatively (or maybe even too aggressively) causing the side to fail to fulfill their run scoring potential. This can really let poor bowling outfits off the hook. In comparison, the side that bats second knows exactly what they have to do, and will have already learnt about any demons (or lackthereof) in the pitch, thus giving them an advantage.

Now that advantage can be minimised, or even reversed, if the side that bats first has a strong bowling outfit. Teams like Australia and Sri Lanka can defend even medium sized totals by taking early wickets and heaping pressure on the opposition, thanks to the quality of their bowlers. But teams like New Zealand, especially without Bond, can't do that. When the batsmen know what to go for, our bowlers will normally have very little chance of stopping them from getting that. Thus our best option, especially against a side with as good a batting lineup as Australia's is to bowl first in almost all circumstances. It's no coincidence thatl all 5 of our previous victories over the aussies have come when we've put them in.

I dunno, Tait seemed to be getting ahead of himself implying the kiwi's were afraid of him and Lee on the basis of one 20/20 match, especially considering that he was one of the main culprits in last years 3-0 hammering. And I think McCullum's in a pretty fair position to comment on it, considering he didn't seem remotely intimidated while he was flaying them all around the adelaide oval.

He also owned and scared the crap out of them in the World Cup.

You think so? I dunno personally, sure he took three wickets, but one was clearly not out (Fleming caught behind when the ball clearly came off his arm), and another was Michael Mason, hardly one of our batting titans. He was also pretty expensive. I thought McGrath and Hogg were the real destroyers in that game...

3/32 off 6 are fine figures on a flat track. Especially when you consider the likes of McGrath went for over 6.

He had them scared.

I'm sure he did. In any case, for him to come forward and declare the opposition are scared of him, on the basis of one or two performances is a bit much, especially since his overall performances against the New Zealand team have been pretty average. Indeed, if you look at his stats against New Zealand in comparison to how he's done against everyone else, one would certainly struggle to say he has the kiwi's running scared. They're not bad, but compared to his career stats, they're not exactly flash either.

He didn't say scared, he said they looked uncomfortable which is exactly what they did.
Yeah, in one 20/20 game when we were trying to score 10 an over. And to make the point again, McCullum hardly looked uncomfortable against him on Friday.

Tait probably needs to keep his gob shut a bit imo. McCullum probably does too but I do like a bit of the old TransTasman niggle :p

Yeah the forecast says rain in the afternoon though. But of course weather predictions can be complete ****e at times
And yet somehow they always manage to be cruelly accurate for rain on cricket days.

Man this Tait throwing thing has gone completely out of hand IMO. Vettori hardly even implied that he was a chucker and the media exaggeratted it to the point of where Vettori was saying he was a cheat and no good. This in turn makes Ponting and co. retaliate and so they should. But they shouldn't be retaliating against Vettori but the media who made it seem so bad.

No respect for the media in cricket at the moment. Pick up on any small thing and exaggerate the loss of form of players and the form of the team but they fail to realise the season as a whole or the previous season and think that the last two games define who the players and teams are now. Oh well. What worries me the most is that these media comments are effecting the players and their motivations for success. Soon it will be Tait vs. Vettori not Australia vs. New Zealand. etc. etc.
