Rudi is making too many bad decision these days..if i am correct he has made 4 wrond decision this game alone...2 aganist each team...atleast he id fare in that..i think we should declare @ lunch..whts there to loose i am sure pakistan wil not chase 300+ in 60 overs..if our fast bowlers can get some ball to bounce and keep low atleast can make a match of it

There haven't been too many contortions here recently, surely?

On point, the T20 last night was encouraging as we saw some real pace and bounce back in the WACA pitch. I agree with you to the extent that we need pitches to have individual characterisitcs, and not all be bland featherbeds which don't crack up, or aren't fast and bouncy to start with, if that's how they usually are.

Traditionally:
Perth - fast and bouncy
Brisbane - green and quick
Melbourne - trampoline bounce since drop ins have been used - seems to be pretty slow this year though
Sydney - a turner, but less so in recent years.
Adelaide - batsman friendly, but often a result day 5.
Bellereive - flat (Its a road mate).

Of late, the pitches here have been homogenised to try and last 5 days to, presumably, increase gate takings. The sooner we get back to the traditional surfaces the better, imo. The change in conditions has coincided with a very strong Aussie side which has enabled them to still win despite having flat pitches for the most part. Doesn't mean it's good for cricket though.

BTW, based on the wicket last night, if Australia don't play 4 quicks in Perth they are stark raving mad. Clark, Lee, Tait, Johnson. Add some medium pace and off spin from Symonds as back-up.

Bring your helmets fellas.

AWTA!

Never rated him much as an umpire and this season he has made too many poor decisions to sustain his place in elite panel of umpires for the next season.

They're quite possibly the second best team in the world at the moment. What are you on about?

What're you smoking?

India's bowling attack is the 2nd / 3rd worst among the test playing nations barring Bangladesh, WI and possibly NZ. In fact, Mortaza is as good a fast bowler as anyone in the Indian attack (his career summary reads nearly identical to Zaheer Khan's, except the last 2-3 matches, and he bowls largely without support). They can't get Akmal, Arafat and Sami out on home grounds!

India's batting is overall pretty good, but in serious decline over the past few years. Overall, I'd say they have the second best batting lineup in the world (on paper, with all the inflated averages from home grounds) but in terms of real effectiveness perhaps the 3rd / 4th best. Half the lineup is a complete sitting duck on fast pitches - it's preposterous to call a team the second best in the world when they can't in fact bat on half the pitches in the world.

I'd say realistically, they're about the 4th / 5th best test lineup ATM. And please don't point to the rankings cause everyone knows they don't mean ****.

What's that got to do with anything? Everyone loses in Australia.
Yeah, I bet the players also have the same defeatist attitude. Didn't they draw 1-1 against Australia C a couple of years ago? And if not for the utter and complete lack of self-belief, they would've actually won. They should've pounced on the chance in the last test, but no one's "supposed" to beat Australia, right, so they didn't get them on the last day.

I think the Indian team needs some coaching in mental strength and the soft skills. They have the natural ability, they are just too mentally fragile to convert it to actual results. Then maybe someday they have a shot at being the second best in the world.

Why the heck is Anil not declaring???

How much safety he wants to get?? I thnk last night after Lawson made a statement that Pak would go for 320 in 65 overs have him thinking that target should be atleast over 320.

And now playing after lunch has cost them a possible injury toVVS

It is ridiculous, India batting on when well past 300 and just about one and a half session to go.

Silly indeed.

Unless the idea is to give Karthik some confidence (ahead of the Ausralian tour) and some exposure (to the selectors ahead of todays team selection)

If anything he needs to give Karthik spend more time more time behind the stumps...VVS has been one of the best indian batsmen against Aussies and now he has gotten hit badly

As I said earlier, didn't see India declaring in this game very early, if at all. Our main objective is to win the series and there is no reason we should give even .01% of a window to Pakistan to win. Wont matter to Pakistan if they lose 1-0 or 2-0 and so they will go for the target; 40-50 overs would be steep to bowl out a team. Plus, we should give the batsmen batting practise instead of more toll to our bowlers.

I agree with both points whole heartedly. Kumble suddenly dropped in my estimation a couple of notches. I thought this was a spinner with a fast bowlers aggression. This turned out to be a Sunil Gavaskar in disguise. :)

They've just answered you as Karthik chases another ball outside his off stump.

374 to get in 48 overs.

Kumble must set defensive fields to make sure Pakistan dont win this match
