why are NZ allowed to play us?

Bit harsh...Australia are superior than New Zealand at cricket, admittedly, but I don't see the need for anything like that!

Yeah I know I was a bit harsh, but that combined with the poor disciplinary record (hasnt he gotten in trouble for similar things everyone of the past 3 seasons?) just give me that impression, and thats all it is, a first impression, would love to be proven wrong.

yeah, he's got a rather poor disciplinary record, in fact i think he was suspended this domestic season for a drunken night out, but again you can't really judge a players passion and commitment for the game on that. i mean, did anyone question warne? now lets face it, warne had a disgraceful disciplinary record, but absolutely loved the game.

I wasn't entirely convinced about Twenty20 when it first arrived but after actually going to the matches I changed my tune. The atmosphere at those matches was far better than any ODI, and the fact that it brings new spectators, not only in age but also gender can only be good for the game. Players are more active, spectators get more value for money, and its hardly going to affect the amount of test cricket played so the purists will still have their game. I watched most of the 20-20 World Cup and it was thoroughly entertaining, as even the one sided affairs were over within a short space of time. Its here to stay and I'd advise you to get used to the game!

I don't plan on jumping on the bandwagon any time soon. but i do plan on going to a domestic 20/20 game this summer to see what it's all about.

Got to love the depth of Australian Cricket when you can call up a relatively random state player an hour before the match, and he hits 15 off 7 in a 32 runs off 18 ball partnership.

It wasn't just an ordinary random state player who got picked it was Pomers who is one of the most talented young players in Australian cricket atm, so that further shows how strong the depth of the Australian cricket is.

Yup i agree with you on that Luke seems to be a very talented bloke but he is very young too so with time he might get a bit more mature and professional, somebody like Ricky Ponting also had disciplinary issues when he was young but with time he came over it so lets hope Pomers can do that too.

Btw what did you guys make of Clarke's captaincy, yeah i know it was just a T20 game and judging his captaincy one just a T20 game is probably not possible but still to me he came across as a pretty aggressive captain.

Yikes, thank god for Oram enlivening what was otherwise a no contest. Without Bond, things are going to get messy for the boys. I reckon 3-0, with one tight loss in the first game followed by two absolute thrashings.

Funny what happened with Pomerbach, I wasnt awfully impressed with him tbh, first time I've actually seen him interviewed and he didnt seem very proffesional. I have no doubt he has a huge amount of talent, however he dosent strike me as someone who has the drive and work-ethic to really refine his game. Like I reckon during the week he dosent give cricket alot of though, just hangs out with his mates, gets on the piss and chases girls around, whereas someone like Voges you can just tell he has that competitive edge and proffesionalism and will do anything possible to get ahead of the que. Would love PB to prove me wrong but thats just my early impressions.

What an absolute load of tripe. Pomers is one of the hardest working cricketers on his game in Australia, and anyone who has been anywhere near the Academy will testify to this. He obviously has a huge passion for the game, and has achieved some bloody massive things already. Sure he loves sinking piss, but how many 23 year olds in our culture don't really?

Didn't seem very professional? No CA contract means he'd have an incredibly small amount of idea of how to deal with the media and act in interviews because of no training. Couple this with the fact that 5 hours before hand he was probably looking forward to kick back with a nice relaxing evening at the cricket...

Before he even played a first-class game he had scored centuries against England and South African attacks featuring all of their bowlers! Magnificent talent and will definitely play for Australia for some time at all levels.

Yeah spot on. I don't get the bagging of Pomersbach, he seems like a top bloke and I reckon he bats and is in the shape Cosgrove wishes he was.

Remembering Cosgrove was seen as one of the next big things after he won the Young Cricketer of the Year at the Allan Border Medal a few seasons ago. Incidently, I think Pomersbach will win it this year.

I'm excited for Australian Cricket that we can call upon a guy like Pomersbach and he performed fine.

It's going to be interesting actually next year to see who gets a Cricket Australia Contract. Heaps of Cricket to be played before then though.

I'm a big fan of Pomers and Bailey - The future of Aussies middle order.

Let's be patently clear - this is by no means an excuse, because we were going to get thrashed regardless, but as soon as they crossed to the guys in the middle for the first time, Gilchrist started talking and I was waiting for him to stop. But he kept going until Johnson was only a few metres from the crease.

One of the basic sportsmanship rules of the game is no talkig as the bowler runs in - yet Channel 9 were actively encouraging it! One wonders if they approached McCullum to do it or not...

in conjunction with this sort of comment, the commentators were talking about CH Trophey being second yearly.. the trophey hasnt evebn completd a 5 year cycle..and they all ready talking about turning it into a side dish event.."oh yeah thats right we gotta play those kiwis again..what a waste of time"... sometimes a wish the all blacks said we are only gonna play you guys every couple of years...

I found it annoying they only talked to Gilly and Symonds tbh. They talked to Vettori about twice and Taylor not at all and you can't say they didn't talk to Taylor because he didn't bat long enough, he was out in the field taking magnificent catches and they just ignored him. Our commentators are fairly biased at times but the Australians take it to a whole new level.

If anyone justifies it by saying they're there to entertain Aussie watchers and not ours then I say thats what oours a for and therefore you shouldn't complain if we're biased.

I'm not really a great fan of some of these new 'innovations'. I found Gilly talking as the bowler was running in a bit distracting. It didn't add anything for me except to know that Gilly doesn't shut up. Maybe that's the job of the 'keeper because McCullum talks all the time as well.

I remember about 20 years ago one of the innovations of World Series Cricket was interviewing the players at the boundary as they walked back after getting out. They stopped using this 'innovation' after a couple of the players looked like they were going to hit the interviewer for his really silly but obvious questions. Can imagine batsmen are not in the best frame of mind after getting out - especially if it is for a duck. However, it was very funny television.

You are absolutely right! I do not like this kind of stuff. Commentating getting in to field. not good for cricket IMO.
