*Official* English Football Season 2007-08

Nor did Klinsmann before he coached Germany & he did very well. The thing with him though he had a plan to revamp the way Germany played football after failure in Euro 2004 and in the 2006 WC his hard work payed off brilliantly. If Shearer where to become manager would he have that same kind of thinking? who knows but even though its risky i don't think it would be a horrific selection. My choice though is Capello since i don't believe for reasons already mentioned that popular choice Mourinho would be up for the job.
More luck than judgement in that appointment now you point it out, if someone has not managed before, there's no way you should be thrusting them straight into international management. Or even top-level club management for that matter, should start outside the Prem.

Seriously considering going to Switzerland now. And it should be a darn sight more pleasurable now that the English 'fans' will not be there.

England, England, England...... where to begin

Firstly. McClaren ****ed up. NEVER should've played Carson. If he really had lost that much confidence in Robinson (and wasnt just bowing to public pressure), then he should've played James. For more experienced and mature player, ok, not the best keeper on earth, has his crazy moments, but is the best English shot stopper going ATM. I'll let him off with the Beckham move, SWP was looking decent in the first half, and the idea of facing a player as intelligent as Beckham with 10 min to go, with him fresh and you mentally drained, isnt nice.

Now as for the performances.
Carson shouldn't have played. Made unbelievably stupid mistakes, couldnt kick, couldnt catch. For 7 minutes he was like a rabbit in headlights. After that, he was roadkill.

The Defence were shocking. Dont know who they were playing for really. 4 Guys, doing what they do for a living (actually, thats not true, Bridge wasnt earning thousands for sitting warming a bench), all speak the same language. Should be able to communicate with each other. Failed. Cost goals. Actually, Bridge nearly scored a beauty over ..... well, over Carson. Nice try lad.

The Midfield.... Well, did we have one? Because the Croats seemed to get from box to box without a problem. Last time the world saw 80 yards of turf with so many lifeless bodies was at the Somme. Lampard scored a penalty. That took his number of touches of the ball for the game upto 3. Barry was woeful. Gerrards passing was shocking. Each one was hit faster than a scud missile, impossible to control.

Only one of the starting XI who put his back into it was Crouch, did as well as anyone could expect of him really.

AS for a new manager. I want Mourinho. Bollocks if we need a top class coach, there only together 5 days at a time, where they learn nothing execpt how to play poker. Need a top class man manager, who's not afraid of the media, can get the best out of players, etc etc. Jose fits the job perfectally

National stereotype begs to differ. :p

As to the rest of the paragraph - agree about the Carson decision. Personally I feel Robinson should have played, but if it's a clutch decision like that then, given the importance of the game, you at least give it to the experienced keeper in James. I think I rate James higher than you do to (though I never used to). Disagree about Bekham/SWP though - Beckham made a big difference in the second half, and had he been on from the start the outcome might have been different.

Beckham wouldn't have lasted a full match though, certainly much better to bring him on than to start him. Him and SWP were best off as impact players.

Why not?. I know everyone now would be all down on Lampard now after being poor for England most of the time since the WC when in reality he has done more than his mid-field compatriot Gerrard who never gets any criticism. But really we see him every weekend playing brilliantly for Chelsea being the most prolific goal-scoring mid-fielder in europe over the past 3 seasons i don't think any coach could leave him out really. Its obvious though his game is one-dimensional & is helped by the fact that at Chelsea he has had Makelele & Essein doing the dirty work while he shoots & not having that support with England has exposed him. But i'll say & Mourinho realised it with such goal-scoring pedigree from mid-field such a player has to play really. So between now & the 2010 WC Lamps still has a big role to play for England once that goal-scoring form is still good.
Both Gerrard and Lampard have been poor for sure, but when Gerrard played alongside Barry they did the business, Lampard hasn't looked the part in an England shirt for two years now IMO, and I don't think excellent club form is good enough if he obviously isn't performing on the international stage. Gerrard-Barry works for me, or Gerrard-Hargreaves

****. Redknapp's interested. If he leaves Pompey for England I'll be absolutely gutted. I think he'd do a good job as England coach 'cause he's a damn good man manager, but I really don't want another Velimir Zajec or Alain Perrin brought in.
HR would be my first choice, if we went for an Englishman

That's what I'm worried about. He's an Englishman who might actually be good at the job, and is interested, which now makes him one of the top candidates. These days I'm surprised by how much I find myself torn between club and country - I guess my club hasn't let me down as often in the past few years. I want him to stay.

Seen the pitch heat map for Gerrard against Croatia? Not sure what he was thinking of.

I just looked on the BBC site at those heat-map things, very revealing. Wayne Bridge's looked virtually the same as Joe Cole's, no wonder our defence was **** poor. Bridge hasn't been an England-quality left-back since he played for Southampton, since he joined Chelsea he's gotten lazy and complacent.
