Dave Richards to lead MCC
Dave Richards, the Cricket Web Black and Lancashire spinner, has been invited to play for and captain the Marylebone Cricket Club in their tour match against the Cricket Web XI. Richards represented the CW XI in three Tests in India back in 2009 (Season 6).
Richards will join Vusi Sibanda as the only players in the team with international experience. There is, however, a scattering of county cricket experience evident.
MCC XI:
DP Richards (c), MA Richards, ZK Sharif, RMR Braithwaite, PG Dixey (wk), JC Morris, SM Butler, SH Choudhry, REM Williams, LJ Evans, V Sibanda.

Smith, Borcich, Collins and Jasotharan in for MCC match
Dan Smith will represent CW XI for the first time as he is set to line up against the MCC in the tour match starting today. The three-day fixture serves as preparation for the third Test of the ongoing series, which CW XI leads 1-0. Smith did not feature in the opening tour fixture, but has been playing in England for Derbyshire for the past few months, with reasonable success.
Also included in the team are Shan Jasotharan, Nick Borcich and Adam Collins. David Kennett will lead the team in the absence of Neil Pickup, who rests with Andrew Cloete, Haakon Moerk jr. and Mike Wilson.

Weather and Evans hinder CW XI preparations

Rain and the unexpected brilliance of Laurie Evans blunted the Cricket Web XI and restricted them to a tame draw against the Marylebone Cricket Club. Evans cashed in some loose bowling and looser catching - he was dropped on 50 and 74 - to score an unbeaten 162 for the MCC. The innings took on even greater glory when placed in the context of a total of 310, achieved batting first after winning the toss. The Webhead seamers made short work of the top order before Evans got stuck in, scoring many of his runs in partnership with the lower order, as the MCC added 238 for the final five wickets.
CW XI batted shortly before lunch on day two against a largely inexperienced bowling attack. Both openers were out for 35 to leave the score at 91-2 in the 24th over. Chris Butler and Pete Young were cued to score their first significant runs on the tour, and chipped in with 89 and 135 respectively. Young was in sublime touch after his half-century. He was dropped twice before it, with the earliest when on 11. The third wicket stand flourished to the tune of 179 runs and laid the foundation for an eventual score of 369-5 declared. Before Kennett called his team in from batting, Shan Jasotharan managed to inject some life into the inevitable draw. Earlier rain had washed out almost five hours of play, limiting the match severely on the final day.
Jasotharan used his feet masterfully against countryman Dave Richards to hit the spinner for five consecutive boundaries, numbered in his 34 from 19 balls. As Richards struck back to bowl Young, having earlier dismissed his captain Dan Smith, Kennett called the innings to a close. Only an hour and a half remained in the game, and both captains agreed to play the full 22 overs left, with the tourists attempting to find some semblance of bowling rhythm. Collins dropped Sibanda off the third ball of the MCC second innings, and the Zimbabwean went on to play a streaky 33 before holing out to Demeza on the square leg boundary. MCC scored a solid 92-2 behind Zoheb Sharif's 31 not out, and the CW XI seamers failed to build significantly on their good work in the first innings.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Pity weather intervened. Good stuff by Borc and Kennett with the ball, while Young was pretty damn good with Butler backing up and some solid starts from the others.

Really happy with Borcich's efforts, as well as Pete's. Can't complain with the bowling, it was an individual effort from Evans, some days a batsman is just in that kind of form, but it was telling that their next highest score was 29, with only 3 more after that making double figures. Collins breathtakingly miserly.
Batting was great too, pleased with our efforts, great knock by Pete obviously, but also credit to Butler for staying around, unfortunate to not make his ton, but provided excellent support.
Only bad part was the weather really.
Certainly think we can take a lot of positives out of the game though
