I think Lee is being seriously over-rated by the Australian selectors when it comes to test cricket, and i don't know why he is being granted a place in the test team, his record in test cricket isn't too great so shouldn't he also be fighting out for a place in the test squad like the other Aussie bowlers.
Somebody like Tait will leak runs but he is much more likely to run through a team then Lee especially in test cricket, anyways Hilfenhaus is an amazing talent and Australia shouldn't waste his talent by making him sit on the fringes so i would draft him into the Australian team ASAP.
Agree with you. Lee is a given selection, although he really shouldn't be. His test record isn't strong enough to justify it. And I agree with you on the point of Tait being able to run through teams at Test level. Its something I think he can do in any format. Lee...Not so much. He doesn't have very many 'hauls' in Test cricket so to speak...I personally think he's lucky not to be fighting for his spot in the side.

Lee's spot would be under much more threat if the bowling attack hadn't just lost two of the greatest bowlers ever at once. Whether you rate Lee or not, making unforced changes to the bowling lineup now with so many forced changes happening would be silly.

Personally, I think Lee will have a big summer. But regardless of whether you have faith in Lee as a test bowler or not, calling for his dropping now of all times would be pretty silly. In his last 15 tests, he averages 27 with the ball - hardly dropping territory given the circumstances.

Anyway, I really like Mitchell Johnson as a bowler but I echo the sentiments of those above regardless Hilfenhaus's gunness. I think the Australian attack would be really well balanced with an attack of Lee-Hilf-Clark-MacGill TBH. The raw pace and swing of Lee to rattle the batsmen early and provide short, sharp bursts; the genuine swing bowler to bowl with the new ball and then come back later, doubling as a stock bowler capable of bowling long spells for few runs; the perfect first change in Clark, who bangs it in back of a length slightly outside off moving away to keep the pressure on and test the batsmen technically and mentally; and MacGill, the old school attacking leg spinner. It won't happen but that's the way I'd go.

Very interesting performances in state cricket this weekend no doubt. Looking foward to seeing what the selectors do...

I didn't say he should be dropped, I just said that he should be fighting a bit harder for his spot. His selection is a given, and with his record I'm not sure that should be the case.

Tait will be straining on the leash to get a crack at Ponting this morning.

Hell hath no fury like an auditioning Test paceman!

No wickets for Hilfy.

Lee wicketless again, in apparently really good bowling conditions albeit the flat-track. Clark took two in a row.

But the main story has to be Hogg. Two more wickets already. Has really had a superb match.

Yeah Hogg has had a superb game he has picked wickets and scored runs so basically he has done everything that he could to push for his test selection.

If Hoggy jags a Test spot - would have to be the biggest Cinderella story since MTG Elliot came from nowhere to comeback for Australia in the Top End in 2003 versus Sri Lanka.

Haha, didn't he cop one in the head and retire hurt in the first over or something?

(it may have been the Aus. A game vs. England)

Nah, Elliot's probably my favourite Australian batsman ever.

Pretty sure it was in an Australia A game. The same one where Key scored a big ton, in Tassie IIRC.
