I am afraid I am not one of those. I never play up the Indian side on this forum but I really thought that with a relatively new attack Australia would be brought down closer to India's level and we would see a hard fought series at home.
Australia have lost Warne, McGrath, Gillespie, Kasprowich from those who toured last time and there was no McGill as well. The batting was good but not looking THAT grat, honestly. India on the other hand had the entire batting intact with the exception of Sehwag, Yuvraj was in good nick and Sachin is playing his best cricket last 2-3 years. And before the series started, Pathan came back to allow for a more balanced side.
No. I doid not think India would win only 2 matches and also have such an inconsistent batting show.
I think India's problems have not reduced but are at least the same if not more than they were when Chappell left and thats not good.
SJS, we're talking ODIs here right?
Well the last time Australia toured India playing ODIs (not including the Champions Trophy) Australia actually didn't have Warne, McGrath, Gillespie or Kasprowicz. They were all injured I believe. Lee too.
Australia smashed the crap out of India in that series (tri-series with NZ). Their bowling line-up was something like Williams, Bracken, Bichel and Hogg (if my memory serves me correctly). India only won one match against Australia during that tour.
I think in a 6 match series (discarding the first) on Indian soil, this current Australian team is a 4-2 better team, and its a fair reflection of the gulf between the two teams in terms of talent (yes I understand it was a dead rubber, but if you're telling me Australia didn't want to win that game tonight, then you're wrong IMO. Look at their reactions when a) they fought back and ripped apart India's top order, and b) when India started to crawl back into the match).
You ahve to remember India hadn't beaten Australia in a ODI since 2004 until this tour. Now they've won two, and came extremely close on Sunday in what I believe was a good effort.
Are there still plenty of flaws in the Indian ODI team? Yes, for some reason they've never been able to fix them, and maybe they won't. But I think they're a better team now then they have been for many years, barring possible the first half of 2004 when Laxman, Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid were all peaking.
