Sachin Tendulkar

He was just commenting on the irony of someone like Kapil Dev (who should know better) talking about match winning skills. Especially considering how for most of his career, with the exception of Gavaskar, he carried his team mates and certainly the bowling attack.
First of all unlike Kapil, Tendulkar has had pretty good batting to support him for most of his career. Dravid, Ganguly, Azhar, Laxman, Sehwag to name a few.

Secondly, we dont even know the context of the interview to make anything out of one statement. Kapil does know a thing or two about winning skills at least as much as(if not more than) Tendulkar, IMO ofcourse.

SJS has a habit of making unfounded accusations about some Indian greats (Check out his diatribe against Gavaskar in various threads) and at times ridiculing them. The only reason he gets away here is because forum members respect him for his contribution to this forum, which I recognize as well.

Tendulkar has had a lot.... more highs than lows in his career on a personal level as an individual he has achieved more than any average cricketer can ever dream of but as a part of a team, i am sorry to say he has had far too many lows than highs.
What good are all his runs and wickets and all the experience of playing 400 Odi's and 100 odd tests when he hasn't been able to achieve anything major with his team, yeah he alone can't carry his team to tremendous achievements but its also a fact that Tendulkar has mostly failed to deliver on the big occasions when his team has needed him the most.
So Tendulkar needs to understand that's its not all about personal records and achievements because cricket at the end of the day is a team game and that's why i am disappointed with his comment.

Not sure what you're on about tbh, alot wrong with this post but mainly because you've taken his words out of context. Here is the rest of that interview:

"I am feeling good that it's my 400th one-dayer but for me it's just going to be another match; that's how I look at it. My approach will be the same as for any other normal one-day match."

"Always the effort will be to score runs and contribute in the team's win. It won't be any different this time and any batsman who walks into bat will be thinking on the same lines," said Tendulkar.

"Yes, I have scored runs on this ground and it's been good to me. So I am hoping to do well again and contribute to the team's success."
Basically refutes your whole post.

It is an interesting point. There's just some players who seem to always be in the right spot at the right time, at the important juncture of the game to determine the game. Not just with the bat, but maybe with that direct hit run-out, freak catch, or just that one important wicket even though they may not have bowled all that well. Botham's an example of that, he seemed to bob up in the right place at the right time to influence a game. Maybe Tendulkar just doesn't have that luck.

Whatever it takes!!!
I dunno. As has been pointed out, it is not what the reporter asked (it MAY be valid if he is talking abt it from the team perspective) but perhaps the way he asked it that would have irritated Sachin so much. It was most definitely a stupid thing to ask him just before a pretty memorable match.

@Pasag

Let me clear this mate i was reacting after reading the first post of this thread and i thought it was really arrogant on Tendulkar's part to tell the journalist to have a look at the records, though after reading his full interview now i take my words back.

If you had a second look more often or gave a second (or third thought before you post) you may not have to do it often. :)
