Sachin Tendulkar

This has to be the most tired cricket stereotype in history.
Absolutely.

How does one win a match for a team - particularly a batsman ? I wonder ? Scoring 99.99 % of the runs scored off the bat

Which batsman has ever won matches ALL by himself - I wonder ? We will tell you later after hearing Kapil's next interview.

What is the cirteria to decide a match winner ? Kapil saying so

A batsman can only 'contribute in a win'. No won can win matches JUST BY HIMSELF.

Having understood that, Sachin has contributed more to Indian wins than any batsman in Indian cricket history.

Sachin has also been part of the more Indian losses than any Indian batsman in the Indian Cricket History. Everyone knows the criteria of a match winner, So please dont show your stupidity and start ridiculing players like KapilDev.

If Unattainableguy was talking about recent times, then I think he does have a point.

Is it just me Sanz, or have you been gradually getting angrier? I don't remember you being quite so hostile when I first joined.

What is funny is, whenever anyone says something questioning Tendulkar's performance, sachin fanatics start attacking and ridiculing people who dont agree with their fanatic like stance on Tendulkar.

I am sorry if I appeared to be hostile. But it has to be with the attitude of Tendulkar fanatics. The moment someone says remotely negative about tendulkar, some people start throwing insults, start to ridicule people even if it mean ridiculing Indian greats like KapilDev who was offering his opinion .

I did avoid this thread for a good bit of time, because I didn't want to get into this debate of Tendulkar knowing how it has gone in the past, but when SJS made his post ridiculing Kapil, I had to post.

I was thinking of saying something here but it's probably better I email you about it.

Richard, I am one who thinks fondly of both you AND Sanz. So I hope you would consider me a neutral friend. I have to say there is no need for you to make this post. If your better judgment was not to make a comment, then why announce that by writing this? Because in the end you ended up doing what you originally wanted to avoid - take a shot at Sanz (implied, rather than direct in this case). I hope both of you are able to move past your differences…if not, then at least avoid getting into the type of hostile arguments that we've seen in the past few months. Sorry if I overstepped any boundaries. Just my sincere advice to two people I consider friends (as much as one can become friendly online). :)

There's absolutely no chance of the two of us "moving past" our differences TBH. No chance at all. I see what you mean about there being no need to make the post - but it's hardly a great secret, is it, that there's bad blood aplenty between the two of us? There's no way of suppressing it. By saying I'd email Sean, I was avoiding taking a potshot, in my view. I wasn't posting irreverant crap on the forum, merely saying I'd be having a word with someone privately instead.

TBH, I'd quite like to discuss the issue further with yourself too, if you wouldn't mind such a thing - you don't even need to post your email in public view, just send me a mail at my address (I guess you've seen it somewhere?) and I'll get back to you.

SJS was ridiculing the notion that an off-the-cuff remark from Kapil Dev should be enough to judge Sachin Tendulkar (especially when numbers and facts dont back it up).

It is possible for Kapil's opinion to be misplaced, exaggerated or even wrong on a particular topic. (eg 2 days after this interview, Tendulkar top scored in English conditions. India won the test with other people doing great too).

Very different from ridiculing Kapil himself, I think.

Thanks for doing that Jeevan.

If I had replied that post (which I wouldn't have for my own reasons) I would have said precisely that. :)

Why does it have to be ridiculed esp when the context of the statement is not known and You very well know how the media folks work in India, how they pester you with annoying questions and then when they get an answer from you, they like to give their own spin on it.

Kapil Dev has always praised Tendulkar and has always had good things to say about Tendulkar, so its kind of insulting when someone starts showing his sarcasm skills at the expense of one of the true greats of Indian cricket esp when you are nothing but an armchair expert.

This is hillarious. Anyways..Just to be clear on few things..I have no problems with you personally and dont hold any grudge against you. I have already made my position clear on certain things and After that I really have no problem if you are going to discuss my anger management issues with other members..I couldn't care less about what you do in your free time.

He was just commenting on the irony of someone like Kapil Dev (who should know better) talking about match winning skills. Especially considering how for most of his career, with the exception of Gavaskar, he carried his team mates and certainly the bowling attack.

The remark from Kapil Dev is probably casual, as you say.

What is being ridiculed (as was pointed out before) is how some other folks are latching on to this casual statement as some sort of hard evidence of Sachin's decline or choking or whatever. Kapil Dev has nothing to do with this, actually, just how his statements are being used.

Please go over my reply the reply carefully. Thought I should try this one more time.

He didn't cite Kapil's statement as hard evidence, it was assumed by you and/or sjs. He was merely suggesting that he is not the only one who thinks SRT has not performed in pressure situation. He was trying to argue the point but instead of trying to argue SJS chose to attack him by mocking and ridiculing with his sarcastic BS.

Completely agree.

So instead of taking a potshot to his face, you just notify the forum that you're about to talk about Sanz behind his back?

Well is it not better to do it off forum than on forum?
go ahead do it.. no one's stopping you but we certainly don't want to hear about it.

Sanz i think you misinterpreted mate.. don't think SJS intention were ridicule Kapil Dev.
