Has that been announced or is it mere speculation on your behalf? Hopefully the former. In that case ...

Ganguly, Karthik, Sharma, Yuvraj, Badrinath, Dhoni, Uthappa, Pathan, *, *, *

Not really sure about the bowlers. Sreesanth should be on the verge of being dropped again but maybe one final chance to show that he can learn his lesson?

EDIT: We might need another bowler. :)
We really might need to know once for all whether we want Uthappa to open or not. This is the chance to find out. Maybe try both him AND Dinesh Kaarthik at the top...maybe.

Why not rest both Tendulkar and Ganguly and play Dravid, we need him back in form before the next series.

  1. Uthappa
  2. Kaarthik
  3. Dravid (to go lower down if the start is good)
  4. Yuvraj
  5. Badrinath
  6. Dhoni
  7. Pathan
  8. Zaheer
  9. Sreesanth
  10. Harbhajan
  11. Murali Kartik

I agree Hauritz has to be the next long term Aussie Odi spinner not only is he a good spinner he is also a handy lower-order batsman, but for now George is doing a tremendous job his energy is on the field the second to none and he is really a great player to have in a team.

I reckon if India had brought Uthappa in earlier instead of Dravid, things might have ended very differently, Dravid's in one heck of a bad slump.

More than Dravid's slump, I think Uthappa is in glorious form and we need to cash in on that. He needs some big scores quickly (maybe a hundred or two) to graduate to the next level.

That would be fabulous for India's future.

Agreed totally, thought his excellent form was a given. Maybe Dravid should consider retiring from ODI cricket? Keep going in tests for a while yet though.

IMO, there was always more to Dravid's stepping aside as Indian captain than has been revealed and this seems to be reflected in his batting at the moment.

He appears to me to be a guy with more on his mind than the next ball

Regarding SJS's point on Dhoni, I think it's more of a case that he struggles to go at a SR of 100+ from the get-go. He needs to get himself in before really launching in the last 10. Other players have an innate ability to come in and hit the ball big from ball one. Dhoni doesn't seem to have that gift, but he still has the ability if he's been in for a while to take the game away from the bowling team in the last 10 overs.

ya he has said it recently in an interview that he alwys need around 8-10 balls to get in the mood..and when ever he has tried to rush the score before that he has got out early

I completely agree. Thats why I said
If thats the case, then we must plan for it
By that I meant let us have him going at number four, not necesarily to score at a blinding pace but to see the innings through in the middle overs and then provide the momentum in the last 10-12 overs.

We should realise he is not going to provide the cameos like Uthappa has done in this series and Yuvraj has done earlier.

However, it begs the question who will provide the cameos when needed. Our bowlers seeem to have decided that they are going to play as bowlers or not at all. This means that even if we have a top order batsman playing at the fall of the 5th wicket with, say 15 overs to go, he has to try and see that he doesnt get out rather thn go for the bigshots and there is no one else to do it.

So maybe we need to try and work on someone like Zaheer (the best candidate in my opionion) and make a better batsman out of him. Harbhajan is too much of an idiot to ever be a serious candidate. Otherwise we may need to discard one of the bowlers and get another one who is better with the bat than Harbhajan, Sreesanth, Murali Karthik, RP Singh and Powar have proved to be.

The openers, the middle overs and the death all need to be planned for and all are important from a batting perspective in odi's. Unfortunately India have the same players who move between these covering at best two of these three stages - never all three. So we used to talk earlier of getting Ganguly lower down of Sachin in the middle or Yuvraj at the top and so on. This is fine if we can sill find someone to fill the gap c\so created.

Sehwag as a middle/lower middle bat? Has he been tried at the
35th over mark?

Ball is not swinging and he seems to be able to hit along the ground and not
lofted shots. Turns himself on very quickly. Any reason why he wouldnt fit the role of a finisher?

Yes he could although in the death with more fielders in the outfield hitting over the fence is also critical.

I am amazed at the outcry in India for Yuvraj to bat at three. He is the perfect number five. He can be sent up when we do have a partnership like we had yesterday between Sachin and Ganguly.

Probably ppl reacted at the absurd move by Dhoni to send Pathan at the all vital one down slot. That was one of the mistakes made by Indians that cost them the match, otherwise Indians batted extremely well

I've just been reading the cricinfo article about the Australia - India game.

I had to do a quick double take, there. Surely that was intentional?

Uthappa would have been the best option at that time because he can hold an innings together. Pathan's contribution was good, but it was more important to build on, which the Indians didn't do.

Goodness me, I would have expected that everyone on these forums were better than this, and wouldn't bring themselves down to the level of a few idiots in the crowds in India.

If its a joke, it definitely is not funny in anyway at all.

Anymore of this, and you'll find yourself banned.
