Nah, that's ESPN.

Star has Arun Lal and the likes.

Just being nitpicky. :p
I know. :)

When I say Star, I refer to the group. They hire them. Then they are used by diiferent channels Starsports, ESPN or Star Cricket. It could be any depending on duties assigned for differnt series/tournamants.

Just being unnecessarily finnicky :p

hmmm. Its another view :)

Wonder how bad a job he was doing in test matches. Any idea ?
Okay here it is.

Here is how Sehwag fared in test matches (by calendar year) from the beggining of his career.

Year........Average
2001...........47.0
2002...........39.8
2003...........52.2
2004............63.4
2005............60.4
2006............53.0 (till the end of the 3rd test in the 4 test series in Windies)

He played three more matches in 2006 and one in January 2007. The last test of that series in Windies and three against South Africa on tour.

In these four matches he scored just 93 runs with a two scores in double figure (33 in the 1st and 40 in the 3rd test in South Africa). For this failure in four test matches over six month he has been banished not from the eleven but from the squad. A failure so damaging to his career as to undo the entire career given above.

Needless to say there have been many Indian cricketers , some currently playing, who have got away with 3rd degree murder by comparison.

See - this is why Twenty20 is stupid! :@ :(
Well, another reason anyway. ;)

Still, I'm not too concerned about this ODI series, I won't be losing any sleep over it whatsoever. As long as he's back and ready for the Tests in Australia that's all that matters to me.

Sehwag's 2006 figures might be boosted a bit by that 200 odd runs on a road in Pakistan. He often went out too early during 2006.. didn't bat for too long, he had few good knocks which boosted his average but alot of innings where he just went out too early. Don't think he has too many 50 plus scores during 2006. One or 2 big innings and rest pretty medicore scores.

This is ridiculous. Just pull out of the 20/20 WC now on the grounds of self preservation. Why did Watto even go over if he wasn't right?
He could have stayed, getting ready for Pura Cup and a decent tilt at a test spot.

Maybe he should just give up on bowling, and try and make his way as a specialist batsman?

Runs in each of the first nine tests of 2006.
(The he had his run of pooor scores which laster for four games and then it was bye bye Sehwag.)

- 254

- 31

- 5 and 4

- 2 and 0

- 11 and 76 no

- 6 and 0

- 36 and 41

- 180

- 31 and 65

As I have already said he averaged 53.0 in these nine games.

Thats a contribution in at least five of nine tests. Wonder how bad that is.

It was quite obvious he wasn't right from the moment he started bowling today. I even said such on the forums before he got injured. Apparently his fitness test consisted of bowling four overs in the nets which is a joke, really.

If Watto misses this series who are probable players who might replace him?
On current form i think it would hard to ignore Hopes, but White or an extra spinner somebody like Dan Cullen or Hauritz could also be in contention.
Btw is Ponting gonna be a part of this odi squad or is he gonna stay at home in Australia??

Get a pillow to replace Watto.

Like for like.

Seriously though, give up bowling.

He averages 50 with the bat in FC cricket FFS.

The years are slipping away and he's spending them on the sidelines.

Wake up, team hierarchy! Maybe his body is just not cut out for bowling.

The problem is if Watto gives up bowling than he would have to really work hard to get a spot in the team just as batsman, its his bowling that gives him an edge over other batsmen and its his all-round capabilites that had made him such an exciting prospect from a young age.
PS: I don't think Watto would even think about quitting bowling, he had already clarified this during the World cup.

In australia if we pick a new player he usually is in his late 20's early 3-'s,most other countries it is normal to call up a player at the age 18 and 19.
If he has the potential i say pick him.

Okay...Having the T20 after the ODI series is slightly annoying. Very annoying actually.

I'd much rather the guys be back on the plane, back in Australia and practicing for the Test series. They need some practice in the longer form. Or else we're rooted against the Lankans. We'll have not played a First-class game in what...11 months. Ridiculous. Hope they all play some Pura Cup

Agree sideshow what have we really got to lose.
I remember we picked shane and brett lee on just as much as experience as moises has had.BTW shane playing grade this year.

Not really, no, it's normal in Pakistan and Bangladesh (and to a lesser extent India and Sri Lanka) but most of these players aren't really that young at all, they're 20 or 21 (at least) and their cricket-certificated age is 3 or 4 years younger than their real one.

You don't want to pick someone to play because they've got potential though. Sure, pick them for Academies, etc. where the matches don't really matter, but once there's something at stake (be it in Pura or Test cricket) you don't want a player playing until he's actually realising that potential. Otherwise you just harm both the player and your team.
