Haha - Hogg never struck me as particularly bright. Say what you like about why Ganguly got back into the team, since he's been back he's certainly earned his spot.

Indian batsman didn't look like a sacred species yesterday, and why is he calling Clark pacy if anything there is good chance he might get hammered on the Indian tracks, age has probably catched up with Hogg and Bright, they hardly make any sense!

what a joke..those two should hand themselves... indian batsmen will be tough

but i sorta agree that they are ageing a bit.. the top order anyway..the middle order has young guns

As everyone said i am really looking forward to the odi series, frankly speaking i have got bored with T20 (though yesterday's game was great) it has become predictable with all these 4's and 6's and ugly slogs, i just wanna see some proper cricket being played.

yea agreed

im sick of batsmen slogging and when bowlers get 'cheap wickets'...need to watch some proper batting

i wonder if all these t20s will influence how the ODI cricket is played

Ganguly, Tendulkar, Uthappa/Gambhir, Yuvraj, Dravid, Dhoni, Pathan, Powar/Harbhajan, Chawla/Sreesanth, Zaheer, RPS

Uthappa or Gambhir? Uthappa deserves it based on his performances in England but Gambhir may have climbed back after a strong Twenty20 tournament.

Powar or Harbhajan? Powar is the incumbent and fared well in England but Bhajji is more reliable with the bat and in the field and has bowled well in South Africa. Powar deserves an extended run but Bhajji must be roaring to make his presence felt in the one-day side.

Chawla or Sreesanth? You may be wondering why I would even consider Chawla when both Powar and Harbhajan are available. Here's why: apart from being a threat with the ball and potentially with the bat, he is a good fielder and the only strong option apart from Yuvraj and Uthappa in the off-side ring. As for Sreesanth, he may have a tough time finding a place - Zaheer is the leader of the attack, RP Singh has been India's best bowler in recent times and Pathan brings stability to the side at #7. Will we play four seamers despite the presence of three quality spinners in the squad? Only if they serve up a greentop.

Thoughts?

Whatever it takes!!!
interesting times ahead.. .that's all I can say. And I think IF we are going to play three left arm seamers in the same attack, we may get clobbered. None of them are actually outstanding in this form of the game and they all rely on swing even though the extents of their dependancy may vary... And after yesterday's game, Sreesanth should be starting for India in the first game....

And I would go for Powar over Harbhajan simply because while Harbhajan has made a strong comeback, Powar has not done anything wrong yet to be dropped... And I would like to see Uthappa ahead of Gambhir simply because he is a better fielder than Gambhir and at this stage, their batting talents seem to be roughly equal....

Guys can anybody tell me which channel is gonna telecast this series, because since BCCI is being ran by Pawar and his men the television rights issue for India's matches has been a mess, there seems to be a new broadcaster for every new series.

So, do you go with a lone spinner or drop one of the left-arm seamers?

I would go with
  1. Tendulkar
  2. Ganguly
  3. Uthappa
  4. Yuvraj
  5. Dravid
  6. Dhoni
  7. One of the Pathan Brothers
  8. Zaheer
  9. Powar
  10. Harbhajan
  11. Sreesanth/RP Singh

If they go with Irfan, play both Powar and Harbhajan and drop RP since you already have two leftarmers. If they go with Yousuf, drop one of the other two spinners (I would drop Bhajji) and drop Sreesanth..

Buddy, Yusuf Pathan did not get picked for the one-day series. :)

I think Uthappa is a much better batsman than Gambhir in OD cricket TBH.

The Harbhajan situation is a tricky one... if he doesn't start, then comes in and does well, people will say "why on Earth didn't he get picked from the start?" and if India have fallen behind and have too much ground to make-up his non-selection at the start would be very frustrating... but if he started from the first game and did poorly it'd be "why did he deserve to come back in ahead of Powar\Chawla who (supposedly) did so well in England?"

The batting pretty well picks itself, it's just a question of the order... I hope Harbhajan starts and goes well from the start, thus re-establishing himself... I've never thought playing ODIs at this stage of his career is a good idea Chawla-wise... so ideally I'd like to see Zaheer Khan, Rudra Pratap Singh, Pathan, Harbhajan, Powar... all bar Harbhajan I cans see getting the treatment TBH, and even Harbhajan could if he's not on top of his game.

I think the Indians' best bet is to prepare slow surfaces, really, even if it does mean Brad Hogg (or whoever's in the party) gets good figures.

I have never understood Indian team's tactics, for sometime they showed great confidence in Chawla (and for that they made Powar sit on the bench) and suddenly he is out of favour.
I mean if you think that a certain youngster has got some potential you should atleast give him a fair run before you drop him.

Australian team has been rocked pretty badly even before the start of the series, Ponting is in doubt for the first 2 matches, Watson has alreay been ruled out of the series and now Mike Hussey has also been ruled out of the series (and all three of them have hamstring injuries).
On top of that Nathan Bracken has gone back to Australia for the birth of his child, so he might not even make it in time for the 1st odi.
Now seriously Australia got to pick David Hussey in place of Mike!
