Which Test match had both openers being run-out in the same innings, one for a 100+, the other for a 50+ ?

In the third test of the 1901-2 Ashes series, both England openers Maclaren (67) and Hayward (90) were run out in the first innings.

Question

The Cricketer with a worst Strike rate ever in the history of the game...

"has a claim to being the most toothless bowler in Test history..........and had a strike rate of a wicket every 586 balls. On average it took .......... 97 overs to take a wicket. In other words, if he bowled at both ends throughout a five-day Test, the opposition would be only four down at the end of the match ... and they would have scored 1355 runs. "
Who is this cricketer ?

Roger Wijesuriya of Srilanka whose only test wicket came in 97.4 overs (584 balls) for 294 runs in the eighties.

However, his strike rate AND average was bettered by West Indian Rawl Lewis whose single wicket cost him 388 runs and came off 126.3 overs (757 balls) !!!

Nope. I'm looking for a century+ and a fifty+ from the openers who got run-out.

Clue: It was against England

Roger Wijesuriya is correct. Didn't know about Raul Lewis...but I am sure Roger (Wijesuriya) will be a relieved man when he learns about Lewis ....

Right-on.

An oddity was that Merchant was run-out by Compton who kicked the ball soccer-style at the wicket and broke it; had no time for pick up and throw.

Compton was a good footballer whose footie skills came in handy

Won an FA Cup final with Arsenal, IIRC? It's always fascinating to read about the old players who frequently combined top level careers in multiple sports. A bygone era - there's too much money and not enough time for that to really happen any more.

NewZealand has been 'managing' this 'feat' year upon year in international cricket continuously for last ten years !!

What is it ?

BIG HINT : NewZealand had to just turn up for the match for them to achieve this feat !!
