Why do India take 5 bowlers when they can get 10 out of Tendulkar/Yuvraj/ Ganguly and could have taken in an extra bat?

Because they can't rely on those 10 overs being quality, and they don't really need an extra batsman with Powar and Chawla at #7 and #8. Besides, there extra batsman would have either been a useless Gautam Gambhir or a young an inexperienced Rohit Sharma or Robin Uthappa.

They're good enough for mine. It's one thing England going in with 5 as they have little realistic part time options besides Collingwood, but India have more than enough and chasing a big score with batting till Karthik at 6 is dodgy as. Would def have had Uthappa or Gambhir in there.

I am sure we can get 10 overs from yuvi, sachin and dada, probably would have been much better than our front line bowlers. Robin Uthappa batting up the order could have also gained expericne this way imo.

It was discussed not long after the 2nd ODI had finished and most people agreed that 5 bowlers was the best way to go, even more so if a half fit Munaf Patel was going to be bowling. It's one thing to perhaps get 10 overs out of Tendulkar/Ganguly/Yuvraj if one of your main bowlers is getting hammered, but to expect 10 quality overs is asking too much. I wouldn't mind seeing Uthappa or Sharma given a go, but the selectors seem hellbent on selecting Gambhir before those two. Also, Karthik should realistically be at #3 with Dhoni at #6.

Damn fine if you're asking me.
AWTA, had a very good tour so far. Let's hope his bowling doesn't fall away in the next couple of years since he was introduced to international cricket at such a young age.

Who said they need to be quality overs though? As long as they do a job which they are all more than capable of it certainly good enough when the advantage is getting an extra bat in the side. You have three solid part timers there and I'd certainly be using them, imo.

Lot of forum members use it and I am still yet to decipher it, what does it mean (AWTA.)

That's the only thing I was also worrried about Chawla, that success doesn't go to his head and he falls alway rapidly from the scene ala several Pakistani prodigies. Seems to have a good head on his shoulders, tho.

Wonder how much longer England have to suffer Prior who only scraped 30odd because the bowling was so poor. He's the new Geraint, awful shot selection and plays cross-batted shots at balls that aren't there for it and gets out for a brief cameo.

Get Mustard in ffs.

Agree with the above. DWTA being the obvious opposite.

I don't really see how 34 off 40 as opener is a failure. Nothing brilliant, but not bad.

He had 13 off 24 before Patel decided to bowl a procession of short buffet bowling. He was gifted some easy quick runs and still only made 34 off 40 before throwing his wicket away as per usual. As you'll see from his record he's hapless at limited overs cricket, that innings was on of his best by his own low standards and even then it relied around someone bowling a heap of tripe at him.
