Chawla hasn't really had an opportunity tbh. He may be unproven at this level but you have to give him a chance considering his record in FC and List A cricket at lower levels. Jungle Jumbo made a very good point regarding Sehwag as he was a key ingredient in India's part-time combination. Uthappa and Sharma should be next in line but I would certainly persist with five bowlers. To be honest, none of Agarkar, Zaheer, Chawla or Powar are good enough to bat #7 and I wouldn't even really be all that comfortable with any of them at #8 - but given the fact that Gambhir as a middle order players seems to be your next batting option, I can't see how Powar wouldn't offer more to the side than him - even if he had to bat 7 and be the 5th bowler used. The five bowler policy works well on flat, slow pitches, but on pitches that offer a bit for the new ball, it could certainly backfire. If a decent #6 emerges that India would actually pick ahead of Gambhir then I'd still be in favour of 4 bowlers + Ganguly/Tendulkar/Yuvraj - but until then, I'd go with 5. I don't think Agarkar would change that too much.
Chawla certainly seems as if he can bat - however he bats below Powar, and he batted below Harbhajan Singh in his only test. That doesn't fill me with confidence - and Powar at #7 certainly wouldn't either.Chawla hasn't really had an opportunity tbh. Found it.Does Dimi's bat have a middle?
He has actually, against England A.I feel really sorry that Tendulkar hasn't been able to reach the three figure mark on this tour.
He faced one ball and got a single off it. Nothing spectacular, granted, but you expected what? 2?disappointed with the Indian lower order though, was expecting a little more from Powar and Chawla TBH.
Was meaning Karthik actually, my mistake. Why on earth was Agarkar batting above Chawla? Madness. He faced one ball and got a single off it. Nothing spectacular, granted, but you expected what? 2?
What are you on about? He has actually, against England A.
Looks like over his head is the best approach with Doctrove a bit lenient on the wides.Seems pretty simple to me - don't bowl full to Mascarenhas. Short of a length and he has no clue. Good lengths balls he can work for twos. Full is going the distance.
Not really. I dont think he will (or should) be proud to have this as his best bowling performance.I feel really sorry that Tendulkar hasn't been able to reach the three figure mark in any of the international games, he has had a couple of chances and just hasn't been able to get the extra few runs required. Good batting display though, disappointed with the Indian lower order though, was expecting a little more from Powar and Karthik TBH. Gun bowling by Flintoff, his first 5'fer in ODI cricket.
