I'm not surprised tbh, England have been next to useless against spin in one day cricket. That's why I'd play Powar and Chawla against them along with Zaheer and RP Singh.

Not that good, wouldn't be a wicket taking option but he could be able to send down a few overs alongside Bopara or Collingwood.
Not really in the picture then if his bowling isn't quite up to scratch, England have enough bit part bowlers without another.

Has the potential to be destructive in Twenty20 but I'm still wouldn't at all be confident if he was picked for the one dayers. His bowling would just be cannon fodder.

His bowling isn't up to standard, but if he continues to develop his batting, he could make the side on that alone - especially given his style is what many England fans claim they lack.

In related news hope Mascarenhas fans enjoyed his 6 overs 0-45 today, I know I did... Also Mustard a wicket-keeper who opens the batting (I mean could he be any more ideal for England? Give him a go over Prior anyday) scored 49 off 38 before being given lbw to one that pitched outside leg.

There are three ODI's happening at the same time today. Its really interesting that all the teams batting first scored above 290 . Lets see how 2nd batting responds..

Net: 315 in 50
Eng Lions: 296
Durham: 312

Oh and there was a head-high beamer bowled at Ottis Gibson a 38 year old who's played a hell of a lot of cricket - his take it on it:

"I saw my life flashing before me. I'd never experienced anything like that before"

And people go on about KP being soft and how the head-high beamer he got should not affect him...

5.2 Kirtley to Ganguly, FOUR, errs outside off and Ganguly makes him pay, another crisp push past cover results in another delightful boundary, the Indians in the crowd are up on their feet
So is Hunterbhai.

was hoping Maddy could have done something big in this game. Would have done his chances of getting into the limited overs side a great good since i'm very worried about England top order now that Marcus is out..

So, for the good of the England team, you'd rather see the 33-year-old county pro, who was tried and failed at international level and has a poor domestic record anyway, score runs than the talented 22 year old prodigee? I don't get the logic there.

Ha, oh yea forgot that Wright has been going all guns blazing as an opener this season. But then again its only his first season as an opener, i've only honestly seen him bat in a few 20/20 games & yea he has the shots but its hard to judge a batsman's technique in that form of the game for obvious reasons. But i'd like to see him do it for at least another season before he gets called up because given that England have NO senior accomplished ODI openers ATM if he gets thrown in & fails between now & the end of the winter tour to NZ it could affect him.

Maddy now may have failed wayyyyy back when, but from what i remember he was way out of his depth then. He has improved of late i'm sure if you would check his OD stats from the Ashes summer to this season you would see some good numbers. But its not like i'm proclaiming Maddy as the answer per say, just looking at some options.

But if Wright could live up to his hype, all of England would jump, but don't want to risk him so early personally..
