Indian Cricket League thread

For something run by a giant media house, it's surprising that there's been no demo or presentation done about the ICL.

According to the Pakistani newspaper Dawn, Afridi, Akhtar, and Asif have rejected ICL's offer to play for them.

ICL, BCCI and ICC

I just want to know. Can anyone tell me?
Why the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refused to recognise ICL as a cricket league and why the ICC is against ICL?
ICC wants to promote cricket in the world but is not allowing this League to be played? What is wrong in ICL?

The people who run it have different objectives from the BCCI and trying to reduce the control the BCCI have in Indian Cricket. Also it should be noted that the Sanford Twenty20 and the Twenty20 Cup (in US) weren't recongised by the ICC either. But players out of season were still allowed to play without effecting their International status. I guess the big thing is the objective of the ICL is to take control away from BCCI. Whereas those two other tournments were designed at expanding and improving the standard of cricket in those areas. Where as this competition has different objectives.

Yeah, Stanford wanted to help West Indies cricket; Zee just want cricket for their station.

The interesting thing about this whole thing is if ICL was just a bunch of corporations trying to make their own league, similar what happens in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Also Stanford is basically the same thing, just only one corporations rather then a group like in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Even if they were going to televise all the matches on Zee, I doubt their would be much fuss. Considering there is precedent for allowing players to take part in these type of matches/tournments.

Just looks like Zee might have gone the wrong way, rather then get a bunch of corporations to run a league with them. They tired to do itself and during the same time as current Indian leagues. I gather October is probably the best viewing time. But i know in Sri Lanka our fixtures have been worked around the corporate league, even though matches don't have List A status and aren't official recognised by SLC. So maybe after one season during off season, they might have got better time frame.

Really there is no real difference between what the corporate league does in Sri Lanka and what Zee is trying to do here. The guys that run the corporate league have no real interest in improving the standard of cricket in Sri Lanka. Yeah help increase the pay for your average domestic cricketer. But most of them would still get paid more playing in English leagues. Really all they want is to make some extra money from cricket, just like Zee.

BCCI doesn't like ICL because its a challenge to their corrupt bureaucracy. And since they are going after BCCI's bread and butter - TV money - BCCI will do everything in their power to shut them down.

Yeah if it wasn't for the TV aspect i don't think anyone would have an issue with it really. Which just shows dumb the whole thing is.

The BCCI are clearly corrupt, but will the ICL really serve a purpose? The BCCI will restrict players from playing for the ICL and that's that. Unless the BCCI feel insecure enough to significantly improve the cricketing infrastructure in India, I have a bad feeling about the ICL.

BCCI will restrict the players, but if stars near their retirement go to ICL, it will eat up TV money (TV contracts in India have a lot to do with the stars), BCCI will certainly have to change.

Haha by the looks of things Bashar should be the next one approached. Surprised it took so long to get to Attapattu tbh. Zoysa i can see it, Chandana his busted a gut to get considered again, not sure if he would throw all that effort away for a some extra money. I guess it depends how much.
