Indian Cricket League thread

Wondering what SS thinks of this
"Test cricket is the real thing. It is the top level of the game and brings out the best in the players. We would be only happy if anyone does something for the sake of Test cricket. We will encourage it," Pawar told PTI. "But Twenty-20 is for glamour. It can only bring in money."

Bull****.

Who scheduled that 7 game ODI series that's about to be played? That is the most hypocritical thing I've ever heard coming from the BCCI, and that's an achievement in and of itself.

Farhat joins ICL

http://www.thenews.com.pk/updates.asp?id=27561

Test cricketer Imran Farhat has decided to play Indian Cricket League (ICL) and he is expected to send a written request to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today to be expelled from the central contract.

Sources close to Farhat said that he is disappointed for not being selected in national team and therefore decided to play the Indian Cricket League. He would send an application to PCB today in this connection.

Meanwhile, some reports said that All-rounder Abdul Razzaq and prolific batsman Muhammad Yousuf also mulling to play in the Indian league after being dropped from the 20twenty squad.

I cant say I am disappointed that he wont be masquerading as an opener in the near future, good bye to bad rubbish now only Razzaq, Sami and Faisal Iqbal need to do the honors. On another note he would look pretty stupid if ICL fails to take off, XFL anyone??

LOL @ XFL reference. Go Vince McMahon.

But if Imran Farhat is being paid substantially more than he would be under his contract, perhaps he won't look so stupid after all?

i dont know if this has already been posted in the previous pages (too lazy to read through), but the ICL has already gone one up on a couple of cricket boards. http://www.indiancricketleague.in/ They have their own website, something which both India and Sri Lanka dont have.

O0o0o0h, thanks for that dig, you reminded me of something that needs doing...

Wonder if ss could be kind and find a few more threads where this was discussed (and merge them if he so wished, actually).

Only if ICL survives long enough for him to earn that money. Otherwise he just threw away whatever small chance he had of being in the Pakistan team.

Seven first-class cricketers from Hyderabad put their careers at risk on Thursday by deciding to join the breakaway Indian Cricket League (ICL), reports said.

The seven opted out of Hyderabad's pre-season matches in nearby Chennai at the last minute, forcing team officials to rush in reinforcements, the Press Trust of India (PTI) said.

Among the seven was 21-year-old Ambati Rayadu, a former Indian junior captain who was regarded as one of the country's most promising batsmen.

Yousuf, Razzaq have signed ICL deals: Reports

http://cricket.indiatimes.com/Yousuf_Razzaq_have_signed_ICL_deals_Reports/articleshow/2284447.cms

Farhat was candid in his view on the ICL offer and said, "Why should I hide anything? I am seriously having talks with the people concerned. If I sign, I will not hide anything. I will make it public."

If this league is indeed succesful, I will be very happy for players like Asif Kamal, Md. Kaif etc who have have been continously ignored by their boards despite doing well.

"Every person has a right to earn good, clean money. We are no different. I am consulting my lawyers as I have already signed a central contract with the board," the Test opener said.

How is it not madness if someone like Yousuf never plays Test cricket again?

It seems like Inzamam wont play cricket again either, thanks to PCB, isn't that madness as well? Yousuf will Play test cricket again, unless the board displays complete lack of understanding and takes a boneheaded attitude.

Besides Cricket isn't bigger than life. In the subcontinent, it is very difficult for players to take up any kind of sport, most of them sacrifice best years of their life in the hope of making big, most of them dont make big, the boards do nothing for them and these players end up worse than beggars if they dont get support from their families.

Our boards have done nothing to help them and now that there is an alternative league where some of these cricketers have achance to earn some money, our boards are acting like dickheads. Instead of fixing the issue they are targetting the players and threatening them with bans.

I couldn't care less if Yousuf and other like him don't play test cricket ever again if ICL becomes successful and provides a good platform for youngsters and pays them well too.

Normally I dont subscribe to Cricket packages in US because they are too damn expensive, but I will subscribe ICL package if they were to offer one for US viewers. ICL has a very remote chance of succeeding, but I will do my bit to make it successful. Boards in the subcontinents act like tyrants and I am sick of them.

Completely agree. I never order any limited over packages, but I'll order the ICL, even if I never watch it.
