Whatever it takes!!!
Can you ask a tailender to open the innings to protect your batsman against swinging/moving delivery?
I think England (not sure of the team) once reversed their batting order because the ball was doing so much once in the old days. And apparently it worked out well for them.

Cheers lads. Yeah, can't complain about the dodgy luck from the test perspective but man...at least it could have been Dada :( (not that I want him to fail, of course...just this one time for Sachins sake)

Now I just hope VVS can perform well after all the rest of the top order have put runs on the board.
well, that wish of yours got fulfilled. :(

Not really, it doesn't come close. Now it's almost certainly too late for England to make a game of this given our flashy but average batting lineup.
it could have been worse, the way he was batting, he could have easily gone on to put this game well beyond England's reach. I think the Sourav and Sachin decisions have nullified whatever good luck India have had in this test w.r.t the umpiring.

Re: Sanz, re: Sachin I think you're so against people who support Sachin that you go OTT in trying to play down his achievments. To say that he's not one of India's five best all-time batsman is itsl.

Erm, which criticism was fair?

Sehwag said some thing taking a pot shot at Tendulkar.
I think what Sehwag was asked was "which are the batsmen who score very quickly now?" or something like that. He said something like "earlier it was Sachin and after that it was me and Dhoni and right now it is just Dhoni".... Not sure if he HAD to say it in public but I don't think what he said was untrue given the question asked.

I have just read one report on the said thing, so it may be wrong.

So guys what are England's chances of saving this game????? Is the weather fine at Nottingham.I guess the pitch has eased out a lot in comparasion to Day 1 so it won't be easy for the Indian bowlers to wipe out England cheaply this time around.

Gotta say I'm loving this. Missed the whole of yesterday's play due to my 21st party, but its great to see the Indian batsman apply themselves so well today.

Love that Karthik scored again, and whilst I was shattered that Sachin got out in the 90s, still delighted to see him score.
belated wishes, Jon. :) Hope you had a great B day.

Belated wishes from me too Jono, hope you had a great Birthday bash.It was good to see both Sachin and Sourav score some runs after all the criticism they had to go through.

I had deleted that post immediately in the Richards thread as I thought the topic being discussed was Richards and not Tendulkar. If you notice, I made that post much before this inning even started, not after it. It is nor related to him scoring some runs. I knew you would be agitated that I brought this point again if you had not noticed I had deleted that post 5-10 mins after I had made it.

Cricinfo should write a critical post on Kapil, if they do want to write a critical post on some one, because of taking a pot shot, not because he is right or wrong, particularly when he opposed Lele taking a pot shot at the Indian team. We knew India team was dire when Kapil was coach but still Kapil objected to Lele saying India will lose 3-0 in Australia. Kapil Dev has also criticised people in the past for beng critical of team selections saying media and every one else should encourage the players once the team has been selected. I am never in favor of former players taking pot shots at the team or individual players in the middle of the tour. That means they are just screaming for attention. Saying stuff like this in the middle of a tour, regardless of whether it is true or not, makes no sense. I would have maintained the same view had he said some thing about Ganguly, Laxman or any one else in the middle of the tour. It is not because I am a Tendulkar fan really. I have already said why I felt cricinfo was dire on this occasion.
when exactly did Sehwag say "Tendulkar has aged"?

Whether or not Cricinfo should write a critical post on Kapil is not the issue here. Kapil has faced enough criticism in his career as a cricketer, captain and as a coach. Kapil doesn't need to criticise Tendulkar to get attention. He is the Chairman of NCA, a major player in ICL and has achieved a lot more than Tendulkar and likes of him will ever do in their life as a cricketer. So Please dont pull the attention Crap.

He didn't go and shoot his mouth off on his own, he was asked by mediamen and he gave his honest opinion. Why should everyone in the world praise tendulkar when he has been batting like Crap for last 4 years. Kapil is not alone if he feels that way, there are many who feel Tendulkar has not won us enough matches.
It is not crap and debatable at worst. When he reacted is the issue here for me regardless of what some one might think of Tendulkar. How Tendulkar is is not the issue here for me. Like I said earlier, Kapil Dev had no business shouting his mouth off in the middle of the series, particularly given his past stance (see what I said about Lele, team selection). Just because the media asks you a question, doesn't justify you answering it.

He said this a few days ago, he went on to say that Sachin is no longer the master-blaster and MS Dhoni is the new master-blaster8-)

P.S.:- Source unreliable!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That exactly is my point. Re: Tendulkar aging - I am not 100% sure whether he said it. I should have known better and trusted only the most authentic media sources which I didn't in this instance. Apologies about him saying it if he didn't say some thing on those lines.

reg. the Sachin fan thing.. I will tell you one thing. The Sachin fanaticism seems to take out the sense out of a lot of sensible fans. My cousins (who are actually elder to me by two years) declared straight off yesterday by tea that Sachin has had the most bad decisions amongst all batsmen. It was extremely funny for the simple reason that these guys actually don't watch much cricket at all, esp. since 2000, except if India is playing. From whatever I have watched (and I think I can fairly claim that I have watched a LOT of the cricket played since around 94), I think that it is Lara who has had the most dubious decisions against him than other batters, but I am not going to go around claiming that he is the victim of the most bad decisions among all batters simply because I have not seen all the matches. You can't even say for sure that Sachin is the most unfortunate batsman in this sense in this generation and yet these guys are just ****sure that not only is Sachin only inferior to Bradman and Richards but that also he would have averaged in 60s had he not been the most "unfortunate" batsman in the history of the game.

I agree that Sanz seemed to be taking his hatred for the Sachin fanatics a little too far by claiming that Sachin may not be among the best 5 batters from India, but I can see why a lot of guys tend to get ticked off by the Sachin fanatics. My cousins have degrees and can talk really good cricket but when it involves Sachin, it blinds them to such an extent that nowadays I don't even bother trying to reason with them. I just smile away at their blindness.....

Nah, was the next series at home, a few years later.
oh k... wasn't sure about the exact years of Bodyline and all..

Anyways, I think England have a fabulous chance to pull off a draw here. The pitch seems to have eased out quite a bit and the forecast says it will be sunny all through, so the Indian seamers won't get much help from overhead conditions... Sreesanth looks like he has lost it, wonder what Venky is doing as the bowling coach... I don't see him doing much today and it will most likely be a 3 man bowling attack and with only Kumble being the real threat, I rather fancy England doing well in this second dig, even though they may still go on to lose this game inspite of that.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Fanatics appear in most popular elements in sport. Look at Man U, Schumacher. We have it in Bengal (which is, agreed, a smaller region compared to the whole India) with Ganguly - people who are blind Ganguly fans. I encounter them so much here. That doesn't mean that I have a right to react weirdly. Both aspects are wrong really. :)
