*Official* English Football Season 2007-08

I really can't see a club who's able to afford the legal advice ManUre can being so daft as to give a player a letter that guarantees him the right to move to who he wishes. I'd be quite surprised if the courts don't find in United's favour.
I had read that in the actual contract itself there was a release clause of £6 million, however the information is a couple of days out-of-date and possibly completely erroneous. I haven't really been paying that much attention to the whole issue itbt.

Yeah agreed about him considering Liverpool. And AFAIK the "letter" isn't exactly a legally binding dicument and may not usurp his original contract.
wow, i rmember when you said he was better than ashley cole, i guess that was before he was joining liverpool though.

Martin Petrov has joined Man City for £4.7 million, good player, fairly quick who scores the odd wonder goal but his past injury problems maybe of concern.
one of the most interesting signings of the window so far, could potentially turn out top trumps for city, good player in my estimation.

Arsenal have to be very careful this season. The lost of Henry & Freddie gives that side a really weired look. Now pretty much all of the top players (home based or abroad) that made the United/Arsenal rivalry so lovely in the late 90s & early 2000's are gone if my memory serves me correctly. Its such a different side now.

He is and in regard to Cole, he isn’t even the best left back at Chelsea.
I agree that Cole is possibly not even the best left back at Chelsea, and I do think he is quite over-rated, but to state that Heinze is better than Cole is quite ridiculous IMO. He might have been three years ago, he certainly isn't now.

hmm i must i'm in Ashley's corner here. Bridge is a bit better defensively although not by much but Cole attacking threat is better, plus Cole has proven himself on the international & european stage as one of best Left-backs in the buisness only Zambrotta, Lahm & Jankulovski i would have over him in Europe. Not saying Bridge couldn't have gotten those accolades but since he has been second fiddle to Cole for club & country he has got to chance to prove himself much. Very similar to the Lizarazu/Candella situation..

No work permit for Da Silva yet

From the Beeb.

:-O Just when you thought our summer couldn't get any more rubbish it turns out our star signing might not be able to play for us. I'm a little surprised as I imagined Croatia had a trade agreement with the EU, so assumed he'd have the same status as a Kolpak. Only thing I can think of is that he's still travelling on a Brazilian passport.

Surely this would be the most pressing reason…

Home Office Website - “A player must have played for his country in at least 75% of its competitive ‘A’ team matches he was available for selection, during the two years preceding the date of the application.”

Wenger on Da Silva- "He has 50% national games for Croatia, which is a great achievement. He's played every game in the last year, so it'll be extremely close."

My point was that I didn't think that he, as a Croatian, would have to worry about it. I could be wrong, but I'd assumed that they have a trade agreement with the EU as they've applied for membership.

Could be wrong tho & CBA to check.

I’m sure Croats still need a work permit to play in the UK though.

Portsmouth’s Niko Kranjcar was fortunate enough to hold an Austrian passport I believe but without it he would not have been able to sign due to insufficient number of international games.

I maybe wrong but Spurs Dimitar Berbatov needed a work permit even though Bulgaria have had a trade agreement with EU since 1998 (and were joining the EU 1st Jan 2007)…
