Wow really, people are going crazy here. No one is saying that I have a greater knowledge of how the game of cricket is played than Greig, or that I know more. I simply stated that the omission of Hobbs from an all time English team, coming from a guy like Greig, is inexcusable.
It is inexcusable because he has played at a higher level than any of us and has more knowledge of how the game is actually played than any of us.
It's just like it is perfectly acceptable for me to mouth off on Dhoni because he played an idiotic shot, but that doesn't really mean 'I could play better than him.' You have to compare him to other journalists/commentators (as he is one of them now), and compared to them, writing for the most respected site and magazine on cricket, his omissions (both in Indian and English teams) are inexcusable.
That's all. No one is claiming that they personally have superior knowledge than Greig. No one. And definitely no one is saying that they have more practical knowledge of the game than him.
If he is going to write about history of the game, then critisisms, especially when its warranted like it is now, is all part of the game and it doesn't mean anyone is trying to prove themselves superior.
In any case, If I want to learn about the proper way to play a cover drive off real fast bowling, I'll listen to Greig before anyone else on the forum, but if I want to learn more about the history of the game, I'll listen to about 10 guys (archie, SJS, etc) on this forum before Greig tbh. And that's not a swipe at Greig either.
