Meaning what exactly? The next guy to average more with the bat than Tharanga in all cricket and still get relentlessly insulted for technical faults that only seem to appear to a handful of people? Or the next guy to score a ton against England and then get dropped two test later? Nah, can't be, he's a bowler.
Have his performances inflated by playing most his matches against Bangladesh clearly. If he has no technical faults or consistency issues why does he keep getting dropped at by the National selectors at A level.

Yeah he got recalled to the Test side this time around but that has more to do with the fact that Udawatte, Paravithrana and Gunawardene are too inexperienced to get selected for the national team and Ian Daniel is woefully out of form. When he drop backs to the A side his no certainity to be the first choice opener, where like at club level they are trying to develop him as middle order batsmen, cus of his techincial issues as opener.

His basically just lucky his in the right place at the right time, how often do you get your first 3 choice opener all out for a series. They got a middle order batsmen opening with him who hardly plays as opener at FC level. He opens a bit at List A level, but thats about it. Kind of a case of last man standing really.

Personally i don't think his techincial issues are that bad when you look at other players including Tharanga. But the selectors and various officials seem to think they are pretty bad to continual re-mould his game and now re-mould his position in the various sides.

I expect TT Sam to be a regular in the side again once Sanath and Marvan retire for good.

Feel sorry for Atapattu a little. He went through the World Cup without being chosen in a single game. I personally think Russell Arnold got too many opportunities when Atapattu could have been fitted in with some change to the line up.

SL really need Marvan in Australia and against England in October . So I hope this is not the end for Marvan.

Dilshan and some of the others who get by doing bits and pieces need to get their act together...or their position in the Test squad needs to be questioned. (And that definitely includes Maharoof who is hardly a Test match player, whatever his ODI attributes may be ) Dilshan hasn't really made a decent score in Tests for some time IIRC.

Nope he was just mentioned as could be "rested" for 1 of the tests to give some one a chance. He hasnt played tests for a while though (didnt play in NZ)
Considering they only have 5 specialist batsmen in the current squad, it seems strange to rest him to give a bowler (Malinga Bandara most likely) a chance. If that was the case then shouldn't Kupu or another batsmen be in the squad and get a chance at No 6.

Bangladesh in all sorts of trouble, 69-6 with Ashraful falling to a hook shot,

Sri Lankas bowlers have been ruthless but their firlding have let two chances go both ironically to keepers, Sangakara let a chance go at slip and and prassana jawardena who had earlier claimed a neat leg side grab off naffes missed a simple stumping, bring to the conclusion that Sangakara should be keeping wickets not fielding in slips! This test already is doomed aas a contest.

Disappointing perfomance by Bangladesh. I was really hoping for great entertainment from Ashraful. Hopefully, the next Bangla innings will be better.

Kumar dropped a few for Warwickshire in the slips earlier this season as well. God knows why they persist with Prasanna Jayawardene though, if anything Tillakaratne Dilshan could take over the wicket keeping duties. Thus freeing up a space for a 'real' batsman.

But anyhow great start by Bangladesh. Although, their most inform batsman is now in so maybe they can get still reach 100 or something.

I am not sure why Dilshan doesnt keep to be honest in test cricket or infact Upul Tharanga because if Sanga does need rest then surely we are better off playing a better batsman than Prassana no offence to the lad he was a fine keeper in his early days now he is even struggling in that department.

I don't like Sri lanka's decision of playing Sanga as a pure batsman it would be a lot better if Sanga also performs ..g keeping duties in test matches, btw is it Sanga's decision not to keep in test or is it the decision of the Sri Lankan team management? Anyways why the hell are a team like Bangladesh playing a 3 test match series,i guess Murali won't be complaining  he would probably end up with a bag full cheap wickets after this test series.

With the Sangakkara keeping situation we should just bat Warnapura at 3, Mahela Jayawardene at 4, Silva at 5 and Sanagakkara at 6. I rather Kumar play as keeper and bat at 6 then as a batsmen at 3 and have Mr 'I can't bat' at number 7. Or atleast play Kausal Silva as the keeper batsmen, atleast he can bat.

I don't it would be a good idea to make Sanga act at 6, he takes time to get his innings going and i don't think he would feel too comfortable at no.6. Anyways Murali gets another 5 wicket haul and its his 58th five wicket haul in test cricket, though we all know he didn't even break a sweat to get these five wickets today.
