Have his performances inflated by playing most his matches against Bangladesh clearly. If he has no technical faults or consistency issues why does he keep getting dropped at by the National selectors at A level.Meaning what exactly? The next guy to average more with the bat than Tharanga in all cricket and still get relentlessly insulted for technical faults that only seem to appear to a handful of people? Or the next guy to score a ton against England and then get dropped two test later? Nah, can't be, he's a bowler.
Yeah he got recalled to the Test side this time around but that has more to do with the fact that Udawatte, Paravithrana and Gunawardene are too inexperienced to get selected for the national team and Ian Daniel is woefully out of form. When he drop backs to the A side his no certainity to be the first choice opener, where like at club level they are trying to develop him as middle order batsmen, cus of his techincial issues as opener.
His basically just lucky his in the right place at the right time, how often do you get your first 3 choice opener all out for a series. They got a middle order batsmen opening with him who hardly plays as opener at FC level. He opens a bit at List A level, but thats about it. Kind of a case of last man standing really.
Personally i don't think his techincial issues are that bad when you look at other players including Tharanga. But the selectors and various officials seem to think they are pretty bad to continual re-mould his game and now re-mould his position in the various sides.
