International Captain
I've had nothing to shout about this season. In today's cup match we were 25/2 before hamshaw (150) and duggan (151*) added 296, a new third wicket record for Whenuapai, to see us reach 321/3 after Hamshaw was dismissed on the final ball of the innings. Now like on Sunday my bowlers are struggling to take wickets again. This is a div IV side, so its really frustrating to watch. Although Vermaak has been rested, Lee, Palmer and Sweeney are all there and have only one wicket between for more than 20 overs bowling. Hamshaw has three and is only an 8/8 bowler. I think I've lost complete confidence in my sides ability. FFS. Perhaps it is time to offload Lee for better gun bowler.

End of Over 34: 169-4, runrate=4.97, reqrunrate=9.56 (321-3)
Hamshaw 7-0-38-3
Clarke* 81 (99 balls)
Nkabinde 50 (57 balls)

Last Wicket: Anderson c. Sweeney b. Hamshaw 8 (FOW: 85/4)

A couple pops:

Sasrutha Muralitharan - 20 yo, BT Rating=27,218
LH Batsman, LH Spin Bowler, proficient batting form, superb bowling form, invigorated
A defensive player with strong leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Jeithoon got rejected by the Sri Lankan U19 Manager btw, they went for more attacking bowlers and probably guys with better stamina. Once he hits wonderful in two weeks (hopefully) i'll see if he can get in. I'm not holding my breath.

Muralitharan continues to develop 3rd quality plus player, his really starting to come on now.

Two more superbs, all very nice:

2. Liam Bromby - 19 yo, BT Rating=24,397
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, energetic
A cautious player with woeful leadership skills and feeble experience.
Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: superb
Batting: proficient Concentration: strong

Fielding: worthless

7. Carl Oleary - 19 yo, BT Rating=17,239
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, energetic
An attacking player with respectable leadership skills and woeful experience.
Stamina: respectable Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: woeful Concentration: abysmal
Bowling: superb Consistency: proficient
Fielding: woeful

Have noticed Bromby is letting a surprising number of byes past, though; running at about 4.5 per game versus 1 or 2 conceded by most opponents. He's got worthless fielding, which I was planning to rectify later, but perhaps that's the reason for him underperforming. No obvious place to spare him a net for it, either. Hmm.

Wouldn't bother with it anyway unless you're doing it for the secondary pops, it makes about as much sense as training any primary from worthless (i.e. none).

I doubt it will make a difference to his keeping and letting byes down but it will fast track his secondaries a fair bit.

I think Allan has said (in one of the chat sessions?) that fielding is important for wicket-keeping. Which makes sense to me. No idea how important, of course, but it might possibly be just as significant as consistency.

Yeah, that was my instinct; certainly it doesn't seem worth swapping his batting net to fielding (he's on bat+wk) since his batting will be worth well more than the byes he concedes. At his age I think fielding pops will be about 9+ weeks, too, so he's never going to be above, say, feeble. On the other hand, if fielding really is to wicket-keeping what concentration is to batting, then even a couple of levels' difference might be worthwhile. Curse these less-observable variables. :)

Still, he took five catches and a stumping to a medium pacer on Sunday, so I probably just shouldn't worry.

Fielding pops every six weeks, its conc/s that pops every 9+ weeks with a fielding net.
