Can't rate Johnson as mediocre, tbh. Tivendale - definitely. Johnson - no!

Tuck has to lift his game over the next few weeks.

The game has passed Sugar.

He tries his guts out, week in week out, but he's just not good enough with the current style of football. He doesn't have the speed, nor the skills to compete. He's a pure grinder, and to me it seems like the captaincy of the football club has put too much on his shoulders.

I mean when I heard that, after kicking the ball to the wrong end in round 1 vs. Carlton after the first bounce, he told Terry he was "stunned" for the rest of the match and that's why he played poorly, I just shook my head. You need to be inspirational as skipper, and I've been a backer of Kane Johnson for a long time, particularly last year when he was tagging every top midfielder and killing them (Judd, Burgoyne, Black), but I imagine this will be his last season in charge.

But for me, just like Jason Johnson and a few others that don't come to my mind now, they're no longer useful in the AFL. Especially as the leaders of the club.

Despite the fact they are completely different types of players.

They both have the same last name.

In all seriousness, to me, at least in their pomp, they were ball magnets but didn't run the lines, and weren't known for their pin point skills.

I'm not suggesting Jason Johnson should be dropped from Essendon, or that he's useless, or anything of the sort. But he's no longer your best midfielder, and there's a reason why your club wouldn't look to him to win you guys a game and make the match winning play. That's why he wasn't named captain when the spot opened up, and if Lloyd went down again, I imagine if they didn't go Hille, that others would jump ahead as candidates.

Similar case for Kane Johnson IMO. He was given captaincy for Richmond because he had come from a different culture. A winning culture at Adelaide for the most part, with his 2 flags. So he wasn't burdened with the crap Richo and Bowden had gone through for most of their career. In hindsight, it probably was the wrong move.

Who is Richmond's next captain?? Obviously it would have been Coughlan minus the constant injuries. Is Deledio too young?? I think naming Richo or Bowden captain would be a backward step.

Perhaps. Tuck an option as well??

Jackson has impressed this year. The 'big forwards' future looks promising, too. Hughes at centre half and Schulz (if he gets his act together) and Riewoldt near goals.

Richmond will attempt to trade Schulz at the end of this season I reckon. So talented, but doesn't have his head right most of the time, and with Cleve Hughes in the mix (and Jack Riewoldt in a year or two) I don't see any room for him, and I mean literally no room. I don't see room for him in the forward 50, particularly since in a few years time Richo will play directly out of the square.

As for captaincy, Foley is an option but it is too soon IMO. I wish Coughlan had some knee caps left, because he'd have been perfect.

I agree that Bowden and Richo are a backward step, but if one of them was an interim captain until they retired, and then Foley got it off them when he's ready it could work IMO. Because it must be remembered that this is Foley's break-out year, the first year where he's become our main midfielder. Too early to put all the pressure on him now I reckon.

I really hope they don't trade Schulz. I reckon he might solidify his claims with a massive bag before year's end.

Kid has always been able to hit a target. Played as a spare man in Brisbane's defence, played on heaps in his kick ins (either by being forced to or kicking to himself) and then always had a free man in the pocket to kick to.

Every time he hit them straight on the chest equalled an effective kick in Super Coach. He racked it up big time.
