The game has passed Sugar.
He tries his guts out, week in week out, but he's just not good enough with the current style of football. He doesn't have the speed, nor the skills to compete. He's a pure grinder, and to me it seems like the captaincy of the football club has put too much on his shoulders.
I mean when I heard that, after kicking the ball to the wrong end in round 1 vs. Carlton after the first bounce, he told Terry he was "stunned" for the rest of the match and that's why he played poorly, I just shook my head. You need to be inspirational as skipper, and I've been a backer of Kane Johnson for a long time, particularly last year when he was tagging every top midfielder and killing them (Judd, Burgoyne, Black), but I imagine this will be his last season in charge.
But for me, just like Jason Johnson and a few others that don't come to my mind now, they're no longer useful in the AFL. Especially as the leaders of the club.
