Whatever it takes!!!
HB, any good matches in India during December/January? I might be making a trip this winter.

Well, early december, we MAY have some action here in India and it will probably be in the north. Definitely not in the east coast down south, because it will be late monsoon here and it will be risky, but if you were at Delhi or Mumbai or even Kolkata, I think you have a shot at watching a few games.... I am not exactly sure yet but I think the Indian team's schedule is like this:

June to August - Ireland series, Afro-Asian Cup and England tour
September - Twenty20 WC
October, November - Pakistan tour to India 3 tests and 5 ODIs
December - Test series Vs RSA in India
late December - March - India tour of Australia.

Spoilt? I'd say Aussie fans are way more spoilt than us.
I meant with regards to Dravid, in the sense that I expected he would have scored runs when I heard about the wicket. Obviously though Aussie fans have Ponting and Hayden etc.

That being said, I don't think too many countries can have as much confidence in a batsman as Indian fans have with Dravid. Kallis for South Africa possibly, and obviously Punter for Aus.

According to the cricinfo commentator Munaf Patel is going home with an injury and Ishant Sharma has been called up.

Good to see Karthik doing well here, but I still don't like the idea of playing him as a specialist batsman.
why. if the team management thinks he fits into that role , as he has proved in SA, I dont see any problem with that. He has the technique to do well.

Team balance. He is doing a good job now, but he is a manufactured opener and not even a specialist batsman. Bound to fail sooner or later.

I feel that is a good call on the team manangement's/selectors' part. I dont care if he is a manufactured opener. I dont remember too many indian openers doing well in the South African soil, even if that is one inning. Team will be more balanced if he had replaced Dhoni as the WK. India would have definitely played Laxman then.

I maintain that Mahendra Singh Dhoni should be the #1 wicket keeper is Test match cricket for India until he fails noticably, and Dinesh Karthik is scoring runs. He has shown that he can handle a pressure situation and is a vital part of India's lineup.

Which channel is the series on? I tried DD 1 (which showed the ODI series) but it isn't showing it. I dread it is NEO sports? Dish TV doesn't have NEO.. Any highlights packages on other channels?

South Africa have two home series in the months of December, January and February, they do not tour India until March.

Indeed, I thought that myself when I went to check his cricinfo profile. One good domestic season obviously makes a Test cricketer these days.

What are our other options, apart from Nehra, Agarkar etc ?
I am not sure, I'd give some of the domestic stalwarts a chance. With 6 games under his belt, you have absolutely no idea what he is. This is Test cricket, you don't pick people randomly off the street.

If he's really good, let him prove it. When he has 50 FC games, we'll see how his record looks then.

Ranadeb Bose is the guy who immediately springs to mind as he had a fantastic season. Any other really good seam bowlers who have had success in domestic cricket in the last 2-3 years and deserve a go?. Have the likes of Ashish Nehra, Harvinder Singh, Laxmipathy Balaji and Debeshis Mohanty fallen of the radar recently?.

Nehra is the only one in that list who isn't trash and he's lost it as well.
