Both superb players but Reid much more of a match winner. (You've inspired my new avatar however)Thought about putting JR Reid in there. In the end went with Congdon

Walcott could make an excellent batsman keeper for odi's, no ?Just forget about Walcott and Worrell. Weekes has a shot if Lara opens instead of Haynes. Otherwise, Richards-Lara-Headley is awesome.
EDIT: Holding > Walsh in the test side as well. Imagine that attack: Marshall, Ambrose, Holding, Garner ...
TBH I can't make my mind up who I wantDempster was an opener for NZ. Think he batted 4 for whichever county he played for though. Oh and Bond>Bartlett definately. Bartlett I think is our quickest bowler ever, but his record doesn't compare to bowlers like Bruce Taylor, Chris Cairns etc. Vettori>>>>Petherick as well, despite his test hat-trick on debut.
And you don't have Martin Crowe in that XI.

Bartlett's career was plagued with doubts over his action too which apparently personally affected him quite badly and led him to quit the gameTBH I can't make my mind up who I want![]()
So many choices....
Thats a good average in Sri Lankan domestic cricket . Most top batsmen average around 30-35 in SL domestic cricket. All well saying it, but up to SL getting Test status, he had an FC average of just 31.42 (and it only actually got over 30 in the English summer before SL's first Test - so would he really have been selected before that point for Tests anyway?

You're dead right SJS, unfortunately he was born in the wrong time but he would have been a terrific OD playerReid would have made a fantastic limited over batsman. When I saw him in 1965 he was past his prime but he was an extremely powerful hitter of the cricket ball and played long innings at that rate. Plus he was a superb fielder and a very useful bowler.
Petherick? Petherick????? All he really did in tests of note was the hat trick. Probably ended up being more respected later on for his lawn bowling talents.Read a bit about Cowie today actualy. Bradman out for nine!
Turner
Wright
Jones (where's that bloody Tewwy Bwindle!?!)
Dempster?
Suttcliffe
Cairns?
Smith
Hadlee
Cowie
Bond/Bartlett
Petherick
Very good team that ^^Petherick? Petherick????? All he really did in tests of note was the hat trick. Probably ended up being more respected later on for his lawn bowling talents.
This is my crack.
Dempster
Turner
Sutcliffe
Crowe
Donnelly
Reid
Taylor/Cairns (pretty interchangeable, although Cairns more consistent with the bat, while Taylor provides more bounce and another left-hander in the line-up)
Hadlee
Smith
Bond/Vettori (depending on conditions)
Cowie
Damn good team that, pity that it and all the other teams suggested will never play.Something like
Turner
Dempster
Sutcliffe
Crowe
Reid
Cairns
Taylor
Hadlee
Parore/Smith
Vettori
Bond
There are only 4 specialist bats, yet Reid is a good number 5, Cairns is a good number 6, and you go all the way down to Vettori who is about the best number 10 possible, so in the end the batting is still gun. Then you have an absolutely gun bowling attack with a 5 pacers + Vettori. Picking all the all-rounders is the way to go imo, it's like having 15 players in your team.
I think you've got the perfect team there thierry.Something like
Turner
Dempster
Sutcliffe
Crowe
Reid
Cairns
Taylor
Hadlee
Parore/Smith
Vettori
Bond

Spot on, that is!Smith=Parore=McCullum for 1-2 more years then McCullum > both
Geez, stuffed up the ODI team by forgetting about Dean Jones! For Aus:
Test:
Ponsford
Trumper
Bradman
Chappell
Harvey
Miller
Gilchrist
Davidson
Lindwall
Warne
Lillee
(McGrath very stiff)
ODI:
Gilchrist
M. Waugh
Ponting
Bevan
Symonds
S. Waugh
Hussey
Warne
Lee
Lillee
McGrath
The bowling is thin with just four regular bowlers PLUS Aamir Sohail. I would bring Imran and reduce one batsman probably Yousuf. If I had to strengthen batting further I would get another allrounder like Intikhab at the cost of Shoaib. Imran, Wasim and Waqar is a good enough pace attack with Saqlain, Intikhab and Sohail providing three different types of spin.Pakistan
ODI's:
Saeed Anwar
Aamir Sohail
Zaheer
Yousuf
Inzamam
Miandad
Moin Khan
Wasim Akram
Saqlain Mushtaq
Waqar Younis
Shoaib Akhtar
