Huge difference between aggressive cricket and idiotic cricket. Dravid and Kallis can do the former, whereas Afridi usually does the latter.

i am sorry if u guys feel that way but i have proves to back it up. have u guys ever seen people going to the studium watching cricket becuase of dravid and kallies. players like afridi, brain lara, Kevin peiterson, Ricky pointing, Jaysuria, Adam GilGrist and other aggrassive cricketers are the one that attract people to watch cricket. now i am not taking away any thing from dravid or kallies they are good cricketers but they aren't entertainers. they don't play aggrassive cricket and they are my least fivrate players to watch. i remember before the semi final match between SA and Aus ricky pointing said that they want Kallies in the crease as early as possible. what thier plan was that if kallies gets to the crease it would be hard for SA to make 250. the smart captains of the opposite team always want Dravid and kallies early in the crease becuase they know that thier team can't make 250 if they bat all 50 overs.
off course i am a fan of afridi. and i am not only his batting fan but i am a fan of his bowling, fielding and his aggrasive approach to cricket. he is the one that attracts people to watch cricket and becuase of him the stadiums are full of cricket fans whenever he is playing. I am not his fan only but all the cricketers who play aggrassively. who doesn't make u fall a sleep while watching them.
i said that becuase that is how i feel when i watch these two guys batting. maybe u guys see it differently and i respect that but u guys should respect my opinion also.

I would go miles to watch a batsman like Dravid or Ponting play and, mind you, not necessarily in a match though would be great, but even at the nets. I wouldnt go anywhere further than my seat in front of the telly to watch Afridi and will get up to fetch a coffee or a beer but my wife or cook has to do everything when Sachin, Ponting, Dravid or a Richards is batting.
I have seen tussles between Imran Khan, Sarfaraz Nawaz versus Gavaskar and Jimmy Amarnath. Dour battles for survival. Believe me my friend, cricket doesnt come in more attractive packages.
It has to do with what you like to watch --- good cricket or big hits.

You must be joking, bracketing Afridi alongwith those other players. People might go to the stadia to watch Afridi bat. But then people also go to the circus to watch clowns.

alright people. what is the point of this arguement here. no matter how much u people try to change my opinin about Dravid and Kallies it never happening. so why waste ur time and push it again and again. if u guys enjoy watching kallies and Dravid bat, good for u guys i am happy for u guys but me i would much rather do something else than watching them bat and fall asleep while watching them bat. again i am not saying they aren't good players. they might be but i don't find them entertaining and if a cricket player or any athelate from any game fail to entertain the fan of that sport, then what is the point of existing of these players or athelates.
i have never said afridi is as good as these other players. it would never ever happen. also i am not here saying that kallies and dravid are not good players. they are talented batsman but i just find thier bating style boring. i have my reasons and my choice. i suppose u go to studium to watch Kallies and Dravid for the same reason becuase they are boring clowns and giving the name of the bordem to circus.

No one is trying or evenly remotely interested in changing your opinions. You are more than welcome to keep them. but you cant go about claiming that you know about the opinions of "the people" at large, can you?

You miss the point. We do NOT go to a cricket match because it is a circus and has clowns boring or not. We go there because it is a sport where there is a contest between bat and ball and the fiercer the contest the more we enjoy it. We love watching a batsman show his coplete array of skills to counter the combination of a great bowler and a helpful surface, maybe in a tight corner.
Now that is a contest. And we love a contest. Can you see the difference? Maybe not. Fair enough but dont take yourself to represent all "the people".

Different Taste my dear, different Taste. Some think that Shakila is a bigger, better and way more talented than Aishwarya (Anil can vouch for that). And trust me I myself cant say which one I like(or dislike) more.
So I dont blame you for what you like, but please dont speak for every one else because some of us do go to watch Dravid/Kallis and I love watching Afridi in full flow.

They are both amazing batsmen.. but I love the way Ponting plays. Some of his shots are just awesome. He has the ability to be able to stay in all day if he needs to and just score when he can. He knows his limits and when to play shots. He is someone every teams wish they had. Too bad he's an Aussie though.. Joke..

People here are under-estimating the importance of aggression. Controlled agression if you will. Ponting has scored more runs than Dravid at a far better rate, yet this means little to some and Dravid is still better. I don't get it. The importance in the modern era of scoring quickly is enormous. Dravid is a throwback to a classical player, yet that's really not as effective in today's game. In order to win tests on todays pitches you need to score quick, you need to make a big total quickly and then send the other side in. Ponting does this better than most others in the world and certainly Dravid. I think this is kind of reflected in the fact that Australia have won 16 of their last 17 tests and India have an incredibly high rate of draws. Australian batsmen are willing to be very aggressive and it's through this that they achieve a greater result for their team.
It's well and good to call people who enjoy aggressive play idiots, but really who is the idiot when you are claiming a guy who strikes at around 40 is better than a guy who strikes at around 60. And same in ODI cricket. Aggressive batting is a neccessity in todays game if you want to get far. Dravid will never hold the same status as Ponting despite his similair record, nor will Kallis as these 2 guys dont have the ability to turn a game or win a game off their own bat. They might save you some, but they won't win you as many games as Ponting can. Aggressive batting is needed to be rated heavily as a batsman today.
Because after all, the main aim of cricket is to win isn't it? And it's no good if you're averaging 57 with a strike rate of 40 while your team isn't winning.

No thats not it.
Its easy to read more in an argument than is said.
No one is undersetimating aggression. Ask all those who you think are doing so to name their world eleven of all times and the chances are that Viv Richards will make the cut. And HE was the ultimate agressor. Everyone will also include Bradman and Sobers again very aggressive batsmen. Many will include Lara and some others Tendulkar. No you are wrong.
The argument is not about underplaying aggression, its about talking as if aggression is all there is to admire in the game of cricket. NO.
Their will always be a place in the all time world XI for Jack Hobbs and thats a point which is being made.
