Northamptonshire are moaning about Monty not being available for their OD fixture this weekend - despite the fact he's been allowed to play this game when others that played both the Ashes and WC haven't.

Pretty sure the ECB want him in FC mode for the tests tbh.

its sheer absurdity that Darren Stevens is starting in front of Dexter.
Meant to question this yesterday. Dexter's an excellent prospect but still pretty young. Meanwhile, Stevens is at the peak of his career, which admittedly doesn't look as though it's been much good up to now, because he does have a poor average, but he's actually been a pretty consistent performer for Kent since arriving. I thought he was a bit of a journeyman when he arrived, but I'd say he's an important member of the side now, not least for his useful bowling. I saw him get his double century against Glamorgan a couple of seasons back and it was a great knock.

Dexter will play in the limited overs games this season and stake a claim there, and I imagine that should any of the first team batsmen/allrounders get injured, he'll be the first to step in.

I'd also rather have Stevens ahead of him because he's English and Dexter's a kolpak, but there we go.

Much better day from Kent after another poor start. Arafat looks like he could turn out to be an excellent signing.
Arafat, is an underrated cricketer, was excellent in his short spell at Sussex last year and his been unfortunate with Pakistan for his a talent whose been rather misused. And with Ryan McLaren today his taken apart Sussex with the ball.

Dexter’s been around for two years now so his no real novice and his game currently is far more suited for the longer version due to his 'correctness'. However, just looking at Kent's side it just seems oversubscribed in terms of bowling and Dexter's batting could came in handy with Stevens place being the only one of real question, for, Kent seem adamant in playing the likes of Denly. Be interesting to see who makes way for Andrew Hall.

It all went wrong for Worcester at about 11.30 yesterday morning I think.

Tim Ambrose has started the season in fantastic style with the bat in both forms of the game.

Yeah, double ton for Tim. Ambrose is not really talked about in regard to England but his got a pretty impressive career record and he can keep relatively well.

I've been out all morning, only just got back to look at the score! Very pleased indeed!

I agree that Dexter would be a like for like replacement for Stevens, but his one day record is pretty impressive and I think he should keep pursuing that route at the moment. Like I said, as soon as someone gets injured or out of form, he'll be right up there to replace them, and it's good to have that level of competition in the squad. Stevens has done enough so far in his Kent career to merit his place in the lineup at the start of the season, but he needs to start scoring runs, as does Van Jaarsveld.

No problems with them playing Denly - he seems like a great prospect, although I haven't seen him in the flesh yet. Played a great innings against Ireland on Sunday though by all accounts.

Be interesting to see who makes way for Andrew Hall.
I imagine it'll be Cook, as Joseph's made a pretty impressive start to the season, and I can't see them getting rid of Arafat or McLaren. They might drop Patel/Tredwell and select Cook as the 5th seamer if the wicket isn't conducive to spin, but I can't really see it myself.

Bresnan's doing a pretty good job against the Hampshire top/middle order at the moment. Bearing in mind the century he scored the other week, he looks in decent nick - I wouldn't be averse to him getting another go for England in the 20:20?

Better than Saj anyway.

Two in a row for Sussex (follow-ons that is!) and so often it happens that a player comes back to haunt a former county. On that subject, ifI was running a county I'd sign Kolpaks rather than overseas players because not only are they cheaper, but you're guarentted a full season out of them. Kent must get more value out of having van Jaarsveld for a whole season than Hall or Kemp for hardly any time at all as happened in the last two seasons(FGS, overseas players are being lost to training camps now) and unless they have reired from international cricket (like Warne and Langer) they are not worht the money so I'd use Kolpaks as my overseas players. PS - I bet you Derbyshire fans were nervous when they were 0-2 at TAUNTON of all places, but back to BAU now (but they ain't declaring -probably think 694 isn't enough)

Yeah - have to say I'm surprised, but Sussex don't look like a championship winning side at the moment. They beat us pretty convincingly in the first round of matches, but Kent are notorious slow starters. They have a good bowling attack but their batting looks very shaky.

Warwickshire and Yorkshire are the two counties that have caught the eye so far

Sussex 4 down in their second innings now! Getting a bit concerned about pitch inspectors - surely they wouldn't be interested after Kent managed to rack up 368 yesterday, including two centuries? The pitch can't have deteriorated that quickly?

derbyshire 733-8 down at taunton, how long till the ecb have a word in somersets ear?
 Quite funny tbh

They've just relaid the pitch at Taunton in an effort to get some life into it.. According to my parents who still live there, it has rained once in two and a half months, which probably doesn't help..

Kent beat Sussex by an innings and 160 runs... Quite incredible really. I reckon someone must have had a word with Cook about him being my tip to get dropped when Hall arrives and he stepped up a gear

Christ the commentators just introduced Devon Malcolm into a discussion about the top 3 fast bowlers to play for England.

Anyway 300 up and Smithy playing decently

Cricinfo reckons Chilton was at the crease 18 hours for 31 and Keedy 16 hours for 9.
