He might make the Bangladesh side as a Test opener, but he might not, considering they've got some promising talent.
Shaz Nafees Az > Sehwag.

You heard it here first.

(Well, actually, you probably didn't, because some crazy Bangladeshi optimist has probably said it before, but anyway)

Javed Omar vs Sehwag is a more level playing-field, however.

that could happen to anyone even Hayden or Ponting:)
Well it did happen with Hayden - sadly it was reversed.

And it probably will happen to Ponting, but anyone seriously contending that Sehwag > Ponting needs their head examined.

Vusi Sibanda > Sehwag.

You most certainly heard it here first. And the scary part is, I'm deadly serious. Sibanda has improved out of sight in recent times - I hope he gets a proper chance to show it.

Yours is more of "latest is greatest."

If i were to borrow your definition, Sachin, Saurav, Vaughan, Lara are all overrated now.

You rate his chances of qualifying for England?

If you're right, so do I. Cook-Sibanda has a nice look to it.

Not really, though it's true that Tendulkar and Vaughan have been overrated of recent times. Vaughan was always overrated as a Test opener, too.

Shaz Nafees Az, however, is very much not a latest-is-flavour-of-the-month, not least because I don't work like that. I've rated him massively highly since the very first time I saw him bat.

What has nafees, Sibanda done in test matches. Sehwag had never been a great ODI player.

With Sibanda's test average of 8, yeah I can see how you can make that call 8-)

Well I wouldn't rate any team either have played in good enough to be a Test team. But Sehwag certainly was a good ODI player, for virtually the entire calender-year of 2002, when he first got a regular spot at the top of the order.

noone said Ponting > Sehwag. But Sehwag > all openers in Bangladesh,England,Srilanka, Newzealand,West Indies,Pakistan,Zimbabwe. Only Hayden and Smith could compare with Sehwag. And Smith is having a really tough time in tests. By your definition, he is about to have a bad run. So it is Sehwag vs Hayden.

He held on to his ODI place more because of his outstanding run in the tests.

He seems fairly intent on playing for Zimbabwe at this stage. However, the fact that the board told him he couldn't play cricket overseas and yet he had decided to do so anyway might change things a bit. Ridiculous decision by the board though, given how much he improved by just playing club cricket in Australia. He's immensely talented and really just needs some proper cricket against players of similar ability. Playing against Australia isn't going to help at this stage really, but neither is playing against Masvingo. I'm quite confident that a year or two of good first class cricket in say... England... would see Sibanda become a test and ODI standard batsman.

Not a chance is Sehwag better than Atapattu, Jayasuriya, Atherton, etc. And that either he or Hayden could ever be considered remotely as good at Test opening as any of the aforementioned says a fair bit about the poor quality of bowling of late.

Alastair Cook will almost certainly, too, end-up a superior player but right now he does not command a regular opening berth.

No whatever said, Sibanda will never be a good international cricketer.8-)
