BT Cup 5

Bobisback

International Regular
Well done to all the winners of Round 2. Here is the Quarter Final draw, one very big match up there.

Code:
Asterix XI vs	Withington Wonderers
Whenuapai CC vs	College Dropouts
Dalmeny Cricket Club	vs	Scaly Piscine CC
Citizens Erased vs	Anchormen
Home teams listed first
Congrats to all the winners.

My match was disappointing. Wikus did all the hard work, and no one else stood up. Carr's first match against a decent opponent turned out well. 4/19 off 8 is fair gun. Real surprise is my middle order yet again did the work with the bat, while my two "decent" batsmen failed. But the match loser for me was Poke, RFM Superb/Strong bowler, on a cracked pitch, taking 0 wickets, maybe ill have to mess with some tactics.

Still cant complain, i didnt expect to get this far.

What a performance by Sekani, was chuffed when I saw that then I scrolled down further to see that I'd been ripped to shreds by young Nibbles.

Disappointing really but very much the better team won. Well done Nibbs. :)

Good luck to everyone else in the next round.

Yeah, should be a good matchup against Withington. My team's probably at their most vulnerable now, having just lost on a GFI and also possibly selling Baird, so we might be a bowler short on Sunday. Going by yesterday's ratings it doesn't seem as though the GFI hurt me too much though (one level of top order and seam).

What are the semi-final fixtures? If I win will I be playing the winner of Citizens Erased v Anchormen, or another opponent?

Oh well, I was gonna go no matter the opponent, so I can't really complain I guess.

Ought to be a good game though, eh Rob?

Was planning on having a random draw for the semi-finals, IMO adds a bit more spice if you don't know who you are playing next round.

BARNES OUT
I thought my guys did pretty well considering the opposition. Proud of my blokes efforts, to make the second round for the second consecutive time.

Moral victory for Smith as some 18yo upstart dismisses Watkins for 1.
 Good old Swarty. First time he's done anything of note.

Yeah, it should be a really close game, same with the Asterix - Withington match-up. Good luck.

But yeah, sounds good Tharmi, the unknown does add a bit of excitement. Keep it, IMO.

I'd best polish that cup, now that I'm about to give it back!

Hmmm...Verma's still not popped, so I might delay the sale of Brooker for a week. I've been on a real slump recently -- three league defeats in a row -- so will probably crash out before the semi's :(

Let's hope they're all great matches!

ffs. Adam, if I win, I was actually hoping that I'd be facing the winner of Citizens Erased v Anchormen.

Three wickets lost to nobodies who aren't remotely helped by the conditions, all batsmen got a start. Got shafted against the same side on a dusty pitch earlier this season.

End of Over 27: 136-3, runrate=5.04
Lovegrove 1-0-3-0
Packer* 63 (81 balls)
Dillon 3 (8 balls)

Last Wicket: Obrien b. Schofield 18 (FOW: 132/3)

What a surprise, slog over wickets for Lovegrove - 2 in an over.

End of Over 42: 192-5, runrate=4.57
Lovegrove 8-0-25-2
Dillon* 35 (54 balls)
Tawanda 0 (0 balls)

Last Wicket: Preece c. Tucker b. Lovegrove 4 (FOW: 192/5)

Back to the unpredictable again, Tawanda hitting Lovegrove for 3 4s in an over. Hmm

End of Over 47: 243-5, runrate=5.17
Lovegrove 9-0-40-2
Dillon* 53 (67 balls)
Tawanda 33 (17 balls)

Last Wicket: Preece c. Tucker b. Lovegrove 4 (FOW: 192/5)

Dillon is usually gun in the last 10, but isn't this time while a prof-comp is hammering it. Weird.

Edit:

End of Over 50: 276-6, runrate=5.52
Causon 10-0-48-0
Dillon* 74 (77 balls)
Appleby 7 (5 balls)

Last Wicket: Tawanda st. Fanyana b. Lovegrove 38 (FOW: 259/6)

77 off the last 7 overs. One of the more lifelike last 10 overs what with a few non-wicket dot balls and a few wickets but no 6 wickets for 2 runs type collapse. Probably just a fluke.

It is turning out to be a cracker of a game. Low-scoring.

They initiated proceedings by electing to bat first, with Ralph being dispatched and treated with disdain, finishing with 10-1-40-1. They were 4/161 going into the final 10, but thanks to an inspired spell of 9-0-38-5 from Mcmillan, we bundled them out for 202, with Mulholland snaring 10-0-35-2, in one of his better performances for the club.

Now batting, Gray, Houlihan and Wolfenden out, leaving my #2&3 batsmen at the crease, in Mcmillan and Bhutia.

End of Over 36: 139-3, runrate=3.86, reqrunrate=4.57 (202-10)
Barton 8-0-36-0
Bhutia* 19 (20 balls)
Mcmillan 42 (65 balls)
Last Wicket: Wolfenden c. Abdul kadir b. Gerhard 32 (FOW: 103/3)

I just need these two to stay in and I'll be fine. But if they go... *gulp*

Citizens Erased 202ao from 48 overs
Mohammed 90 (104)
Mcmillan 5/38 (9.0)
Mulholland 2/35 (10.0)

Anchormen 6/206 from 45 overs
Mcmillan 66 (83)
Bhutia 57* (51)
Malik 2/33 (7.0)
Abdul kadir 2/49 (8.0)

MOTM: Mcmillan (5/38 & 66)

It was a pretty close game, and we were definitely tested for depth with Gray & Ralph failing to have any impact (although Gray took 4 catches and conceded 0 byes). With the ball, Mcmillan continued his good form and Mulholland turned in one of his best performance for us. Batting, Houlihan and Wolfenden were solid, and Bhutia & Mcmillan guided us home. Semi-finals :-O

Fairly static ratings at the moment:

Anchormen
Top Order: strong
Middle Order: proficient
Lower Order: abysmal
Seam Bowling: strong
Spin Bowling: wonderful
Fielding: woeful

Possibly the tie of the round just started, Withington Wonderers v Asterix XI. Shocking start for Asterix tho, no wicket in the first two overs.

My bowlers don't believe in taking early wickets apparently. Might not be such a bad thing with his best batsmen at 4 and 5. Think I've probably got enough evidence now to suggest that Whitehorne opening the bowling isn't a great idea, will put him back to the middle overs as soon as I get a proper seamer.

Potential to be an interesting close game. Again the death overs even tho there was a bit of a collapse seemed to be a bit more reasonable.
