Brian Lara to line up against Blues
West Indies captain Brian Lara will play in a strong Trinidad and Tobago XI against Cricket Web Blue tomorrow. For the one day game, Lara will play under Daren Ganga and alongside a total of nine West Indies players.

It is due to be the toughest test faced by the Blues on their preseason tour to date. As such, Liam Camps jr. has announced a first XI team for CW Blue. "We'll play our strongest side and look to push on," said Camps. Given that Young will open the batting alongside Camps, it appears a hint to his place come the season proper. Also, with Smith missing the game, is it an indication that he's lost favour with the emergence of May-Quinlan?

Ezraa - a 17-year-old pace bowler - is the only player in the team yet to play a Super Cup game. He's the son of the Guaracara Park groundsman and will look to impress.

Stunning Pollard leads Trini charge
Cricket Web Blue Preseason Cricket

A stunning innings from Kieron Pollard set the Trinidad and Tobago XI on course, and despite a fine effort by Pete Young, Cricket Web Blue slipped to defeat by a clear 28 runs at the Queen's Park Oval. A score of 278-7, inspired by Pollard's well-timed 72, beat 250 all out on a good batting surface.

After Lendl Simmons and Daren Ganga perished early, Barath settled down and recovered the situation with a patient knock. He was joined by Brian Lara and for a while it seemed the West Indies captain would entertain his home crowd as the pre-match hype promised. A delicate late cut beat Goff to the ropes, but a ball later Lara attempted to launch Currie over long-off. Instead he settled the ball into the hands of Young in the deep. The celebration from Currie was a highlight of the day; vindication for a concerted effort to challenge Lara with flight. But Pollard wasted no time in silencing the left-arm spinner. He perfectly and arrogantly executed a slog sweep to claim a boundary with his first ball.

Pollard hardly slowed. He just continued from strength to strength, playing with clear aggressive intent and display a range of beautifully place lofted strokes. Even as Barath fell, the momentum continued. In fact, it surged forward. Dwayne Bravo rolled out two lovely cover drives to greet the first two balls he faced, and the Blue bowling began to lose shape. The medium pace of DeSilva surrendered three more fours to Bravo in the next over and then Pollard slapped McKern to the midwicket fence on his way to a half-century. He took 41 balls to get there, with the credit of 6 fours.

After 38 overs, the home team was poised at 195-4. The final 12 overs had everything. Sean Fuller claimed an admirable hat-trick of wickets - Pollard, Ramdin and Mohammed - then Ravi Rampaul and Dwayne Bravo served up an electrifying partnership of 65 runs unbeaten from 55 balls. Bravo finished just short of his half-century, on 48 off 40 balls, and Rampaul counted 2 sixes (seeing one enormous blow off Fuller) in his unbeaten 35. Trinidad and Tobago XI scored a bold 278-7, but CW Blue looked confident in chasing in the early going.

Camps and Young added 54 at easy pace for the first wicket. Surprisingly it was Emrit who broke through for T&T. Unsurprisingly, it was a loose shot, admittedly by the esteemed captain on this occasion. Brendan Goff and Dinu DeSilva promised much and faded quickly with disappointing cameos. For Fuller, taking guard was a weighted experience. The burdens of poor form upon his shoulders could not totally be lifted by his wicket-taking antics early on. Indeed, for all his 3-in-3 heroics, he conceeded 73 runs in his 10-over spell. The vice-captain presented a booming straight drive first up and collected a boundary to open his account.

Like those before him though, his innings merely flattered to deceive. Fuller attempted to leave the ground at the expense of Pollard and only managed to present a simple catch to Dillon at deep midwicket. Wilshere and Crampton could not cope with Mohammed's trickery and the game looked truly finished at 167-6. But Currie and Young simply would not surrender. The latter seemed poised for a deserved hundred, which in turn seemed a premonition for his anticlimactic dismissal. Equally unsurprising was that a Bravo slower ball did the trick. There was little more resistance aside from Currie, but he cashed in with a couple of solid blows for sixes before his was the final dismissal of the game.

Trinidad and Tobago XI 278-7 (50 overs)
KA Pollard 72, A Barath 56, R Rampaul 35*
SE Fuller 3-73

Cricket Web Blue 250 all out (47.5 overs)
PE Young 96, MJ Currie 43, LA Camps 26
RR Emrit 3-44, D Mohammed 3-55

Trinidad and Tobago XI won by 28 runs.
Man of the Match: KA Pollard

great reports Liam.

Over the moon to get Lara out! My economy rate is a bit of a worry though.

My batting form is encouraging. A couple of solid scores

Woah, about 4 million posts since i last checked yesterday :p

Stoked about anothe 3 wickets in a OD format match. Don't think i've regularily taken wickets in the short form, like this, ever!

:)

Some great performances going around, shame about the last glitch though against a VERY strong opposition :)

Hmmm, middle order not quite cutting it there. Need to work on getting those singles a bit more.

Great to see the huge activity in the thread though.

In Guildford and can't get the internet to work on my laptop. Games may be delayed over the next few days. Hopefully I can sort it out though. Getting me pretty pissed off.
