disagree completely, birmingham have an excellent youngster in seb larsson, cameron jerome will score goals, and damian johnson is extremely dependable, they have a good squad from which the ogres such as upson, heskey and dunn have all been moved along, very promising.
They are not exactly running away with the Championship, and it is not a good league whatever the pundits say, the fact that it is competitive is mainly because there aren't any really good teams. The gap between the Championship and the Premiership is not getting smaller.

I'd disagree to an extent there. Obviously the top four are almost operating in their own league just now (which means we're coming last :() & there's another three or four teams on the rung below who'd expect to do better than a newly promoted team (Spuds, Toffees, Trotters, maybe Blackburn & the Geordies at a push), but the other few teams aren't really that much removed from Championship teams bar the odd star player or two.

Good win for yer Scousers tonight, showing The Arse how to nail mediocre upstart tulip-munchers.

Sunderland seem to have learnt that lower division players can be brought up and win you the Championship but you need some real quality to do well in the Premiership.
More importantly they've learned that you need to invest to stand a chance, something Bob Murray was reluctant to do (although to be fair, giving Peter Reid money to spend would've been a stupid move)

A questioon for a United fans on here, AS Roma's Philippe Mexes has claimed he has turned down MU twice in the past, is there any fact to that?

Whilse I saw the funniest thing this morning was the headline on Eurosport News that Jose Mourinho was having a whinge that he hasn't had enough transfer funds?! Seriously has anybody considered checking his car or house for illegal drugs?

Good for Liverpool next season with an estimated £40m promised to Rafa Benitez to win them the Premiership. At the rate they are going Spanish will be the official language at the club and I am going to laugh having to see Steven Gerrard having to speak Spanish to his team-mates.

There has certainly been much speculation linking him to us over the years.

Brumby - you're right, but this year seems different - there is no one or two teams running away with the Championship, and as I said earlier, I'm putting that down to there not being any really good teams rather than the Championship being a strong league.

Sunderland, under Roy Keane management, could be argued as running away from it. They lost four games on the trot at the start before he came into the picture. Just put 12 points onto their total and you'll see the effect he could have had if he was there from day one. Even 73+18 possible further points (yes, I know they probably won't win every game, but they are doing very well) = 91 points, add on 12 and they'd have over 100. I'd say they're doing pretty well for themselves.

You also need to keep in mind that the standard of the likes of Sheffield United this season hasn't exactly been amazing, yet they're still in the running to keep their spot. Maybe you rate the lower-end Premiership teams a bit too highly.

Point taken about Sunderland, we'll see how many points they end up with.

And Sheffield United did fairly well for themselves last year. Not on Reading's level obviously, but they were promoted with a few games left IIRC.

Both English sides 1-0 down at the break. Don't know who is in a worse position - Chelsea have conceded a precious away goal, we've lost Scholes from the 2nd leg.

Time to dig deep. Come on United.

Good Lord. Blood gushing from faces after the Italian police arrive. Watching a police officer repeatedly hit a guy with a batton when he's already down on the ground. Seriously, how is that okay? On live television? And I bet United face the fine. I can't believe that. I didn't see what happened last time as I went away for half time, but this time I didn't. Dude, that's horrid. I wonder what started it.

Yeah, and given what Sky were saying, I'd be willing to bet that this has more to do with the Roma fans than the United fans too. Complete joke.

From what I saw: Large amount of Roma fans bang on the clear plastic seperating the fans, taunting the other side. United fans in turn respond. Italian police pour down the United side only and beat anyone in the vicinity. People are beaten until they are on the ground, then beaten more. People on their own seemed to be targeted with battons while those in groups tended to be just pushed backwards. Weird way of dealing with things.

They don't deserve to be hit with a baton repeatedly when they're already down until their faces are covered in red, whoever it is.
Oh, of course. Outrageous behaviour from the police, goes without saying.

Seems like the Italian police and Italian football in general are in some serious trouble once again to me. Feel bad for the United fans, for once.

2054 GOAL: Chelsea 1-1 Valencia
Didier Drogba equalises for Chelsea with a good old fashioned hoof forward. Ashley Cole's hopeful punt finds Drogba and he heads over Doni and in. It won't be challenging the goal of the season awards but Chelsea won't care - that's Drogba's 30th of the season.

2102: Roma 1-1 Man Utd
Hello, what's this? Wayne Rooney scores. For Manchester United in Europe. Sorry, for 10-man Manchester United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer swings in a perfect cross from the right and Rooney does the rest, heading across Doni and into the goal.
Roma on fire tonight, playing both Manchester United and Chelsea at the same time, yet conceding only two goals.

EDIT: Almost on cue, Vucinic levels the scores. Unbelievable scenes as 11 men are standing up to 21.

Ffs United. Still 2-1 with an away goal is better than 1-0. 3-1 would be big trouble though, so we need to tighten up.
