*Official* English Football Season 2006-07

Rooney is potentially world class, or was having seemed to peak at about 18. Of the others, well Terry's a big, solid lump; Ferdinand (to steal Hugh McIllvaney's description) is an "elegant giver of second chances" who always dozes off at some point; Gerrard & Lampard are both so ****ing stupid they can't work out how to play with each other; Owen's just permanently ****ed.

There's your "golden generation".

Has Rooney played well consistenly in the Champions League which is meant to be football's premiere tournament?.They don't play well because of the pace of the international game which is much slower and holding onto possesion is so critical. That's the reasons why England's "world class" players look anything but on the international stage.

Just out of curiosity, how much of a difference would it make to a midfielder's game should they be used to playing with two out-and-out strikers rather than Rooney alongside one out-and-out striker? I just wonder if Gerrard and Lampard simply aren't used to having "in the hole" players such as Rooney. It was mentioned at work today, wasn't sure myself as I don't know the formations of Liverpool/Chelsea all too well.

So what have all these supposed "world class " players done for England eh?.A football team is not built around world class players and nor it should be.I'm not taking about how Terry,Gerrard,Rooney,Ferdinand or Owen play for their clubs TBH.Look England can say they have as many world class players as it takes to get to timbabto TBH.Until they actually perform on a consistent basis at international level then they can't be granted "world class".I thought this was meant to be England's "golden generation"...
How can they perform consistently under an inept system? Their clubs each have systems that work because they have good management and the systems compliment the players.

No, but most of the other England players have at some point tbf. AFAIC, it's simply that they can't be arsed with England.

Isn't it fairly obvious? The players can't be bothered when they play for England. They play well for their clubs (yes, even in Europe, bar Rooney), but not for England.

As for Russia comment, you still fail to tell us why England can't beat Russia away, given Russia have already dropped 4 points at home.

Why exactly gives you any confidence whatsoever that they will beat Russia away considering how absymally they've played for the last 5-10 games. Is this based on the result against Andorra?...8-)They don't play well for England becuse they don't play in the right system and because they have better players at club level. Not because they can't be bothered.

I already told you - I don't think we will win. I just think it far from impossible.

As for English players - you cannot deny that some of the most important players for the 3 English clubs who have reached the last eight are English. And those clubs seem to be doing alright.

No they're not, they played well in the odd game, beat France and a few minnows, and lost last night. As I said a few days ago, I'll eat my hat/computer if they even make the playoffs.
He's talking about present form.On present form Scotland are better than England considering they have a group of France,Italy and Ukraine.

And have lost to two of those sides. While they have performed better than they usually do, that's because they're usually nowhere near threatening to qualify. Yes, they played well against France, but that's only one game afterall.

Perhaps the funniest thing I have read in a while.

If you eat your hat will you post it on youtube? Would pay good money to see that.
