Hahahahahahaha. After a group of Saints fans complained about the overpopulation of the away end last night, Warrington press officer Gina Goldrick (the one Millward got fired because of) was apparently quoted saying "we find that saints fans are larger than the normal fan."

Tony Smith for GB

From the Beeb.

Was hoping for McRae myself, I have to be honest. Let's just hope he makes a better fist of it than Waite.

First job is to work out a system to stop League talent defecting to Union for the better money.

Out of interest what the clubs who are interested the most, or rather the most likely to get Berrigan and Petro (I'm not even going to spell his surname) should/when they go to the ESL? Shouldn't be too hard, if a player who beat a woman can get a contract, then who can't. That any club would touch Latu was/is a disgrace.
Probably should've have tried to spell his 1st name either :p

Saw a decent bit of trivia the other day which may be of interest to stedly or any other closet Super League fans out there.

Only 10 players now active in SL have previously appeared in a Challenge Cup final at Wembley. Can you name them?

I got 7, btw.

Robbie Paul (Bradford), Keiron Cunningham (Saints), Keith Senior (Sheffield), Henry Paul (Wigan), Iestyn Harris (Leeds), Jamie Peacock (Bradford), Michael Withers (Bradford), Lee Gilmour (Wigan)?
Two short. Fielden at Bradford? Would have been a bit young I think.
Stumped for who the last could be. Briers took us to the 97 final when Goulding was banned but was dropped for the final when Bob became available again, IIRC. No idea. Paul Johnson at Wigan?

Ooo. Withers & Peacock didn't play there. You got Gilmour tho, who was one of the three I didn't.

Four left. Three of which played for the same team.

Give up then? :p

The other two I got were Newton & Morley who played for Leeds in 99. The two I didn't were Marcus St Hilare who also played for yer Rhinos & Shane Millard who played for the London Broncos in the same game.

D'oh! The 2000 final were at Murrayfield.

Just cheated to find the other 4 tbh. Had completely forgotten about them. Had forgot that Newton ever played for Leeds altogether, actually.

What's everyone think of the World Cup structure? I like how they keep England, Australia and New Zealand together, but those 3 (or Papua New Guinea, though that's unlikely itbt) going to the semis regardless of how they're doing undermines the whole point of them playing each other in the first place itbt.
The fact it's basically a one off tournament makes it meaningless too. The RLIF really needs to figure out where it wants to go with the World Cup concept.

Gilmour injury puzzles medics

Saint second row Lee Gilmour remains doubtful for Saturday's trip to Leeds. Medics are attempting to establish the extent of knee damage he sustained in the opening seconds against Catalans.

Cocah Daniel Anderson said: "Lee didn't actually touch anyone. He ran from the kick off and was out of the game after just eight seconds."

Gilmour reported feeling a ping' as he braced to make a tackle, but scans have so far have proved inconclusive in diagnosing the injury.

Harsh on PNG, it means they basically have next to no chance of advancing. I can see why it's been done; Oz sticking 100 on Russia serves no purpose, but equally that being so why bother having the minnows in the same comp as the big boys?

For mine you'd really be better off having the WC as an expanded tri-nations with (say) France & PNG added to it. One group of five, everyone plays each other once with a structure after like they have for NRL/Super League play-offs:

Game 1: 1st v 2nd - winner to final, loser to Game 3
Game 2: 3rd v 4th - winner to Game 3, loser out
Game 3: Loser Game 1 v Winner Game 2 - winner to final, loser out
Final: Winner Game 1 v Winner Game 3

Something like 15 games, all decent(ish) contests. You could also run alongside a junior comp for the lesser nations like they did in 95.
